18
MAINTENANCE OF PROTECTIVE EYEWEAR n THE WEARER AND THE SUPERVISOR SHALL ENSURE: - EYE PROTECTION IS CLEANED AND FULLY OPERATIONAL - REPAIRED OR REPLACED IF LOST - REPORT DAMAGED EYEWEAR
19
BASIC FIRST AID n NO ATTEMPT SHOULD BE MADE TO REMOVE A PARTICLE LODGED IN THE EYEBALL n DO NOT WASH AN EYE THAT HAS BEEN CUT IN ANY WAY n BANDAGE BOTH EYES n CHEMICAL BURNS SHALL BE FLUSHED IMMEDIATELY WITH TEPID POTABLE WATER FOR AT LEAST 15 MINUTES.
20
PROGRAM SHALL INCLUDE: n I.D. OF HAZARDOUS AREAS BY COMMITTEE n VISION SCREENING n EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE PROGRAM n TRAINING n PROGRAM ENFORCEMENT
21
BASIC PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS n SURVEY n POSTING OF AREAS n EMERGENCY EYEWASH FACILITIES n SPECIAL PRECAUTION FOR VISUALLY IMPAIRED
22
SCREENING EXAMINATIONS n ALL PERSONNEL WHO WORK IN EYE HAZARDOUS LOCATIONS SHALL BE PROVIDED EYE SCREENING EXAMS PRIOR TO ASSIGNMENT AND ANNUALLY THERE- AFTER
23
TRAINING: n SHALL INCLUDE: - NEED FOR EYE PROTECTION - USE OF AND CARE - LIMITATIONS - OPERATIONS WHICH REQUIRE PROTECTION - HOW TO PROPERLY WEAR - LOCATIONS OF EYEWASH FACILITIES - FIRST AID PROCEDURES
24
MARINE CORPS HEARING CONSERVATION PROGRAM
25
MARINE CORPS’GOAL n TO PREVENT OCCUPATIONAL NOISE RELATED HEARING LOSS AMONG MARINE CORPS PERSONNEL
26
BASIC ELEMENTS n SURVEY OF WORKPLACES TO IDENTIFY NOISE HAZARDS AND PERSONNEL AT RISK n WHEN FEASIBLE WORKPLACES SHALL BE MODIFIED TO REDUCE NOISE LEVEL TO ACCEPTABLE LEVELS n ENGINEERING, ADMINISTRATIVE, CONTROLS MEASURES SHALL BE EMPLOYED WHERE POSSIBLE. PPE SHALL BE USED AS A LAST RESORT. n PERIODIC HEARING TEST SHALL BE CONDUCTED TO MONITOR THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE PROGRAM
27
NOISE MEASUREMENTS n IN ORDER TO EFFECTIVELY CONTROL NOISE, IT IS NECESSARY THAT THE NOISE BE MEASURED AND EVALUATED PROPERLY BY THE INDUSTRIAL HYGIENE DEPT
28
PERMISSIBLE EXPOSURE LIMIT (PEL) n PEL= 84 db(A) twa for 8 hours in a 40 hour work week n FOR INPACT OR IMPULSE NOISE -140 dB PEAK
29
COMMON SOUNDS Whisper Normal Conversation Air Conditioner Lawn Mower Loud Rock Music Jet (taking off) Barely Audible Quiet Mod. Loud Ext. Loud Uncomf. Loud Pain Threshold 10 80 100 120 140 dB
30
LABELING OF HAZARDOUS NOISE AREAS AND EQUIPMENT n DESIGNATED HAZARDOUS NOISE AREAS SHALL BE LABELED WITH: - NAVMED 6260/2 HAZARDOUS NOISE WARNING DECAL 8”X 10.5” NSN: 0105-LF-004-7200 -NAVMED 6260/2A HAZARDOUS NOISE LABELS (DISPLAYED ON HAND TOOLS), 1”X1.5” NSN: 0105-LF-004-78OO
31
ABATEMENT OF EXISTING NOISE HAZARDS n ENGINEERING DESIGN TO ELIMINATE OR REDUCE NOISE LEVELS n DAMPING THE NOISE BY MEANS OF MUFFLERS, MOUNTINGS, COUPLINGS, INSULATIONS, ETC. n ACOUSTICAL ENCLOSURES n ISOLATION n SUBSTITION OF A LESS NOISY OPERATION n ADMINISTRATIVE CONTROLS TO LIMIT EXPOSURE
32
n ALL PERSONNEL SHALL RECEIVE A REFERENCE BASELINE HEARING TEST UPON ENTRY INTO THE MARINE CORPS n ALL PERSONNEL ROUTINELY EXPOSED TO HAZARDOUS NOISE OR ASSIGNED AN OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY THAT INVOLVES ROUTINE EXPOSURE TO HAZARDOUS NOISE AUDIOGRAMS:
33
n ALL PERSONNEL EXPOSED TO NOISE IN EXCESS OF THE NPEL SHALL RECEIVE PERIODIC MONITORING HEARING TESTS n HEARING TESTS SHALL BE CONDUCTED AT LEAST ONCE A YEAR AND ANNUALLY THEREAFTER MONITORING AUDIOGRAM
34
n SHALL BE COMPARED TO THE REFERENCE AUDIOGRAM TO DETERMINE IF A SIGNIFICANT THRESHOLD SHIFT HAS OCCURRED.
35
15 HOUR n PERSONNEL WHO DEMONSTRATE A SIGNIFICANT THRESHOLD SHIFT (STS) ON THEIR ANNUAL MONITORING AUDIOGRAM SHALL BE RETESTED AFTER THEY HAVE REMAINED FREE FROM ALL NOISE EXPOSURE EXCEEDING 80 db FOR 15 HOURS
36
40 HOUR n OCCASIONALLY, AN STS IS STILL EVIDENT FOLLOWING THE 15 HOUR NOISE FREE PERIOD. IF THIS OCCURS, THEN THE PERSONNEL MUST BE KEPT FREE OF ALL NOISE EXPOSURE FOR A PERIOD OF 40 HOURS BEFORE BEING TESTED AGAIN.
37
n MILITARY PERSONNEL SHALL RECEIVE A HEARING TEST UPON DISCHARGE FROM THE MARINE CORPS. n CIVILIAN PERSONNEL WHO HAVE DEMONSTRATED AN STS, SHALL RECEIVE A HEARING TEST UPON TERMINATION OF EMPLOYMENT. ALL PERSONNEL REMOVED FROM THE HCP DUE TO NO LONGER WORKING IN NOISE HAZARDOUS AREA, SHALL RECEIVE A AUDIOGRAM TO DOCUMENT THEIR AUDITORY STATUS AT THAT TIME. TERMINATION HEARING TEST
38
RECORD KEEPING n THE RESULTS OF EACH AUDIOGRAMS SHALL BE KEPT IN PERSONAL MEDICAL RECORDS.
