Fourteen Points Speech Look at p. 699 Wilson suggested No more secret compromises between countries Nobody owns the oceans Reduce guns and weapons in all countries Colonies will be run fairly and balanced Create a League of Nations to ensure world peace The pre-cursor to the United Nations The U.S. never joined the league--ironic!! AWWW!! So nice! The leaders of France, Britain, and Italy thought differently than Wilson They wanted to crush, destroy, humiliate, and decimate Germany Wanted to take all of Germany’s land, military and industry away Crush your enemy so they never repeat what they did! The League of Nations folded U.S. did not want to join Therefore, could not really enforce the sanctions placed on Germany The German people felt unfairly treated In fact, some had new homes within Poland, and Czechoslovakia 3.5 million in Czech alone!!
