4 For a laptop to be checked out to your student…  Parent/guardian and student review and sign the Required Use Rules  Parent and student review the Guide for Usage Fee and pay the fee at the business office  Fee is $25 per semester; financial assistance available

5 For a laptop to be checked out to your student…  Parent/guardian attend one of the parent orientation sessions  Jan. 31 st at River, 5:30-6:00 PM  Feb. 4 th at Fort, 6:00 – 6:30 PM  During the checkout process, students will log in to make sure their logins and passwords are working

6 Care – It’s Common Sense!  Charge nightly  Do not walk around with the laptop open  Carry in provided sleeve when not in use (and use backpacks!)

7 Care – It’s Common Sense!  Do not leave unattended (laptop/charger)  Do not leave in a vehicle  Be careful when using around young children and pets

8 Care – It’s Common Sense!  Property of VPS, entrusted to students to benefit their education  Replacement cost for the laptop is $1200

9 Required Use Rules - Examples  Students will make available all messages or files upon administrator request  Use appropriate language when searching, sending messages and posting information to the web

10 Required Use Rules - Examples  Be responsible, ethical and polite – cyberbullying is not permitted and must be reported  Give credit where credit is due! (Follow copyright laws)

11 Required Use Rules - Examples  “Must Nots” -  Bypass the filter  Share your login/password or use other students’ logins/ passwords  Download or install software  Tamper with the hardware

12 Required Use Rules - Examples  Do not use, share or attempt to locate inappropriate materials  These are materials that are unacceptable in a school setting

13 Required Use Rules - Examples  Do not reveal or post identifying information to others through email or other web- based access

14 The Usage Fee will cover…  Routine maintenance and upkeep of the laptops

15 The Usage Fee will not cover…  If the machine is dropped  If the laptop/charger was stolen because it was left unattended  If damage is due to not following the Required Use Rules
