VIDEO PRESENTATION http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DQPQ_q5 9xyw

Measurement is the process or the result of determining the magnitude of a quantity, such as length or mass, relative to a unit of measurement, such as a meter or a kilogram.

Types of Measurement System & Units Imperial System Metric System

International System Unit Distance

Metric System is an international decimalized system of measurement. first adopted by France in 1791, that is the common system of measuring units used by most of the world. It exists in several variations, with different choices of fundamental units, though the choice of base units does not affect its day-to-day use One goal of the metric system is to have a single unit for every physical quantity.

Metric System Units and Symbols Quantity Measured - length, width, distance, thickness, girth, Millimeter (mm) 10mm=1cm centimeter (cm) 100 cm=1m meter (m) kilometer (km)1km = 1000m

Metric System Units and Symbols Quantity Measured - Mass (“weight”)* Milligram (mg) 1000mg =1g gram (g) 1000g = 1kg kilogram (kg) metric ton (t) 1t = 1000kg

Metric System Units and Symbols Quantity Measured - Time second (s) 60s =1m minute (min) 60min =1h hour (h)

Metric System Units and Symbols Quantity Measured - Volume milliliter (mL) 1000mL =1L cubic centimer (cm³) 1cm³ =1mL liter (L) 1000L = 1m³ cubic meter (m³)

Metric System Units and Symbols Quantity Measured - Area square meter (m²) hectare (ha) 1 ha=10 000 m²square kilometer (km²) 1 km²=100 ha

Application The application in learning the metric system is converting the metric units eg. Convert the following measurements a. 8 cm to mm b. 6 m to cm c. 7 km to m

PROBLEM AND SOLVING Toni was told that he had jumped 8.21 m by an official and 0.0082 km by a friend. Which was the greater measurement?

Solution

It makes my life EASY!! In buying foods it becomes easy if you know how to use metric system

It makes my life EASY!! In our work place we use metric system in measuring our daily activities through time.

It makes my life EASY!! In doing buildings and landscape structures. We use the metric system

Conclusion Therefore, the importance of metric system is to provide human being the easiest way of living. Imagine if there is no metric system. It might be tough and hard for us in dealing problems or numbers the would involve measurement. Metric system is one of the greatest discoveries of the modern mathematicians and everybody should learn about it and see its importance.

“The essence of mathematics is not to make simple things complicated, but to make complicated things simple.”
