WHEN SATAN ENTERS
2
WE HAVE AN ENEMY Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. 1 Peter 5:8 (NASB95)
3
WE HAVE AN ENEMY sober "to be self-possessed under all circumstances" BDAG
4
WE HAVE AN ENEMY vigilant "to be in constant readiness, on the alert" BDAG
5
WE HAVE AN ENEMY adversary literally an opponent in a lawsuit (Robertson, BDAG) however in the context the term may suggest "one who is continuously antagonistic toward another, enemy, opponent" (BDAG)
6
WE HAVE AN ENEMY devil "an accuser, a slanderer, from diaballo, to accuse, to malign" (Vine's)
7
WE HAVE AN ENEMY roaring lion “ the picture here is of a ravenous hungry but powerful beast...In this passage, the Devil is being compared in his voracious appetite and manner to a hungry lion whose hunger is indicated by the roaring. A lion in this condition walks about to stalk prey for killing” (Hamilton p. 319)
8
WE HAVE AN ENEMY walking about seeking actively seeking hunting prey
9
WE HAVE AN ENEMY devour "swallow down" (Vincent) same term used in Rev 20:9 "fire came down from heaven and devoured them"
10
WE HAVE AN ENEMY The work of Satan is not limited to the presence of Satan. The Devil told one lie in the beginning of time and the entire world has been corrupted ever since Through his successful temptation of man in the garden the door was open for all men to sin.
11
DEVOURING A KING We are not told why David did not go with his army We do not know what David's goal was in taking an afternoon walk There may be cultural explanations for Bathsheba being where she was taking her bath
12
DEVOURING A KING What we do know is that David allowed himself to follow a line of thinking that took him from righteous king to murderer. What we MUST SEE is that this same process can claim each and every one of us
13
DEVOURING A KING ENTICED BY HIS LUST (2SAM 11:2) LUST GIVES BIRTH TO SIN (2SAM 11:4) SIN BRINGS FORTH DEATH (2SAM 11:25)
14
NOT ME??? “When pride comes then comes dishonor” (Prov 11:2) Peter serves as the perfect demonstration of this principle “And they all were saying the same thing also.”
15
DEFEATING THE DEVOURER RECOGNIZE THE PROCESS AND ACKNOWLEDGE SUSCEPTIBILITY SHORT- CIRUIT THE PROCESS
