Commutative Property of Addition 2+3 = 3+2 *This property states you can add two numbers in any order!

Associative Property of Addition (3+2)+8 = 3+(2+8) You can change the grouping of the numbers you add!

Identity Property of Addition 4 + 0 = 4 This property states that the sum of any number and zero is the same number!

Inverse Operations Math operations that are the opposite of each other. For example: addition and subtraction. 4+3=7 and 7-3=4

Key Words in Word Problems In all, altogether, or combined – these words tell you to add. How many more or how much more – these words tell you to subtract!

Factors & Products 4 x 6 = 24 4 and 6 are factors – the numbers being multiplied together. 24 is the product – the answer to a multiplication problem.

Multiple A multiple is the product of any two whole numbers. For example: 3, 6, 9, 12, and 15 are multiples of 3. 3x1=3 3x2=6 3x3=9 3x4=12 3x5=15

Properties of Multiplication Zero Property of Multiplication – the product (answer) of any number times 0 is 0! 4x0=0 or 9x0=0 Identity Property of Multiplication – the product (answer) of any number times 1 is that number! 4x1=4 or 8x1=8 Commutative Property of Multiplication – two numbers can be multiplied in any order and the product (answer) is the same. 4x2=8 and 2x4=8.
