2. Group 1 This group should discuss the principles which underpin British citizenship? Has new security legislation changed the relationship between the individual and the state? To what extent has devolution had a impact on identity and citizenship in the UK?

3. Group 2 This group should compare French and German concepts of citizenship with the British model. What are the implications for political culture, identity and integration arising from these different approaches?

4. Group 3 This group should examine the issue of multi-layered identity and citizenship Is British identity better understood in terms of multiple identities e.g. Black British; Scottish & British rather than simply ‘British’? Do you feel European?

5. Group 4 This group should consider whether we are now all global citizens: Has the development of new technologies and supranational economic and political organisations delivered a post-national citizenship? Is cosmopolitanism a better concept for understanding modern citizenship?
