3  Inflated stock values cause an economic roller coaster ride…(box 2)

4  Thursday, October 24 1929- stock prices nose dive (box 3)  This idiom means the prices fell quickly!

5  Tuesday, October 29, 1929  New York stock market crashes. This day becomes known as “Black Tuesday.” (box 4)

6  Investors panicked and rushed to sell stocks before prices fell further- no one wanted to buy stocks. (box 5)

7  Stocks bought on credit created heavy debt. (box 6)

8  Consumers stopped spending (box 7)  Factories shut down (box 8)  People lost their jobs (box 9)

9  Families couldn’t pay their bills- mortgage, electric, necessities. (box 10)

10  Many families lost their homes (box 11)  Many families became migrant (box 12)

11  This time in U.S. history was difficult for all people including children.  The children who lived during the Great Depression were forced to grow up fast.  This was a “coming of age” experience for the children during this time period.  The events from this time period are often written about as historical fiction novels.
