Career and Technology Foundations (CTF) is a new and unique curriculum based on Career and Technology Studies (CTS). Career exploration is incorporated in both the CTF curriculum and the CTS courses to encourage students to make connections between areas of interest and skill development in various occupational areas.

Part 1. The Nature of the 21 st Century Learner 1.Brainstorm: In 2-3’s record as many traits as you can under each letter of the alphabet. 1.Collect and Record on poster chart 3. Label K, S, or A. Inspiring Ed “What are the learned attributes and characteristics (Knowledge, Skills, and Attitudes) that we want our students to carry forward with them so they will be successful in learning and living in the 21 st century?

Ministerial Order (MO): is the first step in putting Inspiring Education into action. It is the basis for constructing curriculum in Alberta schools to meet 21 century learner needs, and sets forth the legal mandate of what is to be taught in Alberta Schools. The Ministerial Order (May 6, 2013) defines the 21 st century Alberta learner as: Engaged Students, Ethical citizens, with an Entrepreneurial Spirit. Cross-Curricular Competencies: A cross-curricular competency is an interrelated set of attitudes, skills, and knowledge that are drawn upon and applied to a particular context for successful learning and living. If this were students, “How might they react If the escalator represented their learning environment?” What Cross-curricular competencies are the students in the video demonstrating through their project work?

Culture of Health and Safety Health and safety concerns in the CTF learning environment vary greatly from occupational area to occupational area. By promoting awareness of health and safety throughout the CTF learning environment, students develop a positive attitude toward their safety and that of others. The attitudes, skills, knowledge and values they develop around safety will eventually permeate into both their private and professional lives.

What strategies can help us manage the learning process so it gives students a reason for learning the content and a venue for practicing 21st century skills? Instead of traditional projects that come at the end of a unit of study, project- based learning has the project introduced at the beginning of the unit.
