2 Social Science at UQ Social Scientists are interested in how societies work, how they come to be the way they are and how they might be different The Bachelor of Social Science is multidisciplinary Learning and teaching has an applied focus Students collaborate with skilled practitioners and researchers

3 Studying in the social sciences will provide you with skills in  Understanding and explaining patterns of social and cultural change  Appreciating cultural diversity  Thinking critically and analytically  Evaluating and synthesizing arguments  Applying research methods of the social sciences in a rigorous manner  Communicating knowledgeably and effectively

4 Graduate with a Bachelor of Social Science  You are required to pass 24 courses comprising  9 core courses from the BSocSc list  6 courses set in your chosen Major, and  9 elective courses which could consist of Minors (4 courses from a major field of study) or other courses on the BSocSc list or any other undergraduate course  At least 14 courses must be at Advanced level (have course codes at 2000 or 3000 levels)

5 Graduate with a Bachelor of Arts/Social Science  In the BA program, you must complete 2 majors (each 8 courses) or an extended major and electives  In the BSocSc program, you must complete all core courses, a major and one elective  Design your program using the Dual Program Planner available on MyAdvisor at http://www.uq.edu.au/myadvisor/dual- program-plans
