KTP Eligibility Criteria Strategic relevance to the business Sound business case - commercial benefits likely to accrue Financially stable company able to benefit from the partnership Stimulating and challenging for the academic team Clear knowledge transfer and additionality Capability ‘embedded’ in company Technically and commercially challenging for the ‘Associate’ Concept generation to full implementation / commercialisation i.e. not a pure research project

Key Features Project length 12 – 36 months (determined by workplan needs) Multiple projects possible Joint workplan and application development Associates Employed by university partner Recruited by university and company partners Project located at business premises with company supervisor Academic Supervisor spends ~ half day per week at company premises on average throughout life of project Local Management committee every 4 months

Prepare full application Application assessed by Partnership Approval Group (PAG) Proposal funded Usually 9 submissions a year Typically 4-8 weeks to prepare proposal from outline approval Outcome known 3-4 weeks after submission Recruitment depends on marketplace Prepare outline proposal Outline assessed by Regional KTP Advisor Discussion with company to ascertain needs. Identification of relevant academics Scoping project Associate recruited Project launched

Typical Project Budget Annual budget ~ £55k Associate Salary - £27000 pa Training and Development - £2000 pa Travel - £2250 pa Consumables - £1500 pa SMEs contribute 33% ( ~ £18K) Large companies contribute 50% (~ £28K) All payments made by the University All claims made by the University Partners billed quarterly in arrears
