Microsoft Word 2000 GEH MIT! How to create a web page/web site

Before you start... I assume that you are familiar with: Windows operating system i.e. you know how to start programs, how to create, save and read files, where files are stored etc. Microsoft Word i.e.: you know the menu structure, you know how to highlight text, copy and paste, you know the basics of formatting (choosing font) you know how to create a table you know how to insert graphic files.

It is really easy Creating a single web page with Word is almost as easy as creating a CV or a meeting agenda. It is only slightly more difficult to build a web site. To show you how helpful the software is in creating both simple and complex web pages I will start with a ready-made template for a single page and a web page wizard to create a more refined web site. Finally, you will build a mature web site devoted to a famous Dutch painter.

Single page (1) Choose File|New on the menu bar.

Single page (2) Select Web Page template from General tab if you want to create the page from scratch or...

Single page (3)... select one of the templates from the Web Page tab on the right.

Single page (12) Let’s select Personal Web Page template. It will help us understand three basic concepts in creating web pages with Word: 1.styles 2.hyperlinks 3.themes.

Single page (13) - style Style Two boxes contain exactly the same text. One is „clean” - the other formatted.

Single page (14) - style Style Highlight the line to be formatted and click the style drop-down list. Choose ‘Heading 1’ to apply the style.

Single page (15) - style Style Highlight the second line to be formatted and click the style drop-down list. Choose ‘Heading 2’ to apply the style.

Single page (17) - links Hyperlinks There are two types of hyperlinks: external hyperlinks (to other web pages in our site or other sites) internal hyperlinks (to some elements on the same page)

Single page (18) - links Internal hyperlinks through ‘bookmark’ If you want to link a content list item to one of the sections you have to create ‘a bookmark’ first.

Web site (1) Wizard Choose Web Page Wizard from Web Pages Tab

Web site (2) - wizard Name and location Give your site a name and say where you want the wizard to create it.
