Industrial Land Use has its side-effects Polluting sites include: 300 industrial businesses 30 landfills (operating and non-operating) Commuter airport Heavy freight and diesel truck traffic 3 major freeways

Original research on project area Sources include: ● City Assessor and ZIMAS land use data ● County Business Patterns and LEHD of US Census ● SCAG and Economic Development Database ● Pacoima Beautiful CARE II study and environmental data ● Personal site visits and interviews

Inventories used to determine optimal spots for green jobs Research divided into two sections: Attraction (how to get new green firms to locate in the project area) Transition (how to green existing firms in the project area)
11
Attraction analysis reveals optimal location: Variables in index include: ●Vacancy (index heavily weighted towards vacant spots) ●Assessed Value/sq ft (lower cost weighted higher) ●Year of building construction (newer buildings weighted higher) 12159 Branford
12
Transition Index reveals optimal location
13
Index with environmental cleanup favored Index with job creation favored Results of transition index based on weights

Potential of Green Cluster DLU Lighting at 12420 Montague Street identified as existing green firm

Required Skills Used ModelMetadata

Additional Skills Used Buffering (required for measurement/analysis skill) on slide of green job cluster Original Data (required, seen in physical, business, and environmental inventories I constructed for the project area) Inset Map (for Pacoima in L.A. and for project area in Pacoima) Hot Spot Analysis to determine optimal green job location (based on different variables for each model) Graduate Symbol (depicting number of manufacturing jobs) Aggregating Attribute Fields (eg. Span1st/All * 100) Attribute Subset Selection (used many times, such as Pacoima by census tract, land use: industrial and residential, etc) Geoproecessing (Clip, Merge and Divide to create parcel area)
