3. To our school…

4. Helmsley is a small market town of about 1300 people. It sits at the foot of the North Yorkshire Moors

5. Our school has 160 pupils From 3 to 11 years old.

6. There are three parts to the school: Foundation Stage (3 to 5 years old) Key Stage 1 (6 and 7 years old) Key Stage 2(8 to 11 years old)

10. The school day starts at 09:00 each morning and finishes at 15:30 from Monday to Friday

11. The children spend all their time with the same class teacher. At the beginning of the year they change class and have a new teacher.

12. Most children live in Helmsley but many others travel to school from the surrounding villages and farms by bus.

13. We have a large yard and field for playing and for sports lessons.

14. During winter we use the hall for PE (Physical Education) lessons.

15. The same hall is used for eating lunch. And a daily assembly

16. During assembly we sing songs, hear bible and other stories and listen to news messages.

17. We have eight classrooms. One room is used as a library and computer suite with fifteen laptops. Each classroom has two computers.

18. The children in Year 4 are working on laptops in the computer room.

19. Parents come to school to help us learn about: BrazilFrench

20. Reading is an important part of our day

21. These children are being ‘animals’ in the jungle role-play area.

22. When it’s warm enough we learn outside as much as possible.
