5 Cost versus Benefits  The actual cost per child at the Junior level will only be $1-2 per week (average 15 week season). This is the cheapest level and the level where most is learned.  Even for the 11yr olds, at $40 per player, over a 15 week season that’s only $2.70 per week.  The 5 and 6yr old players will be involved in First Kicks which is a skill-based programme. This involves 30mins of football coaching every Saturday morning, and then 3 x 10min small sided games (3 v 3, 4 v 4). These games do not have goalies, encourage lots of touches on the ball, and do not keep score.  The 7 and 8yr old players will follow a very similar programme to the 5-6yr olds, called Fun Football, but at a higher level. Again the small sided games (5 v 5), will encourage more development with the football, no goalies and no score taking.

6 Benefits continued  The First Kicks and Fun Football programme, will be run by experienced football coaches and parents.  The First Kicks and Fun Football programme will be based at only 3-4 clubs throughout the city. Schools will be matched up to their closest one, and play there every week at the same time. They may visit another hub club for a ‘Game Day’, perhaps once every 2 months.  Schools/clubs will attend the programmes (like games in the older age groups) in their own school/club football uniforms to show their identity.

7 Benefits continued  All children will become more technically proficient at the game, as they are coached by football people.  Teams will not get beaten by high and one-sided scores  Parents will not have to travel throughout New Plymouth city (and beyond) for a 30 min game, where their child spends most of the time on the side-line, as they are not good enough/have the skills to kick the ball.  You don’t have to try and get a coach and manager for each team (5-8yrs) as the games are all based at the same club each week.  You don’t have to ‘force’ parents into ‘coaching’ a team if they have no knowledge (they will also learn more at the Sat sessions).  We will be hosting some pre-season Demo days, which schools and clubs will be invited to. This will showcase the new programme, and ensure parents and children are all aware of the benefits of being involved.
