2 OTW History – A Global Movement
1981 : “Exercise Trailwalker” started by the Gurkhas Army stationed in HK, raising HK$80,000 1986 : Oxfam started to coorganise, event open to public, 100 teams raised HK$208,000 1997 : Oxfam became sole Organizer, 701 teams raised HK$11,640,198 2010 : 13 events in 11 countries, 3,738 teams raised HK$128,943,262 2011 : 15 events in 12 countries (new : OTW Brisbane, Spain) 2012 : 16 events in 13 countries (new : OTW India ) 2013 : 17 events in 14 countries (new : OTW Italy)

5 The Route Start Point: Pak Tam Chung (Sai Kung)
Finish Point (since 2009): Po Leung Kuk Jockey Club Tai Tong Holiday Camp (Yuen Long) Checkpoints and other parts of the trail will remain unchanged as in 2009 and 2010 It is more challenging (uphill soiled paths towards the end) than the trail used up to 2008 Every walker MUST practice on all ten sections of the trail

8 Change of Team Member NEW
If a member is changed after 18 Oct, the form and a fee of HK$100 for each new member should be submitted between 24 Oct and 14 Nov.

9 Change of Team Member NEW Change of member fee is non-refundable
Fee cannot be regarded as donation and is not tax-deductible Write your team number on the original copy of deposit slip and submit it together with the Change of Team Member Form to Oxfam Form can be downloaded from website

If member is changed after 14 Nov, the form and fee of HK$200 in cash for each new member should be submitted on event day Leader in the Open Team Category cannot be changed Avoid changing team members in the last month before the event and also at the Start

11 Withdrawal Teams must raise a minimum sponsorship of HK$6,800, except for Pledge Teams, which must raise at least HK$70,000 Teams wishing to withdraw from the event must give a written notice to Oxfam on or before 31 Aug Withdraw with a written notice on or before 31 August Sponsorship not required Withdraw with a written notice after 31 August HK$2,000 minimum sponsorship Withdraw without a written notice/ Absent or withdraw on the event day HK$6,800 minimum sponsorship

Start Point Registration Hall is located at Po Leung Kuk The Lion Clubs Sports Pavilion

14 Registration – Step 1 Check team details outside the Registration Hall
Check if names are correct & who is A, B, C or D Check that the team enters the right category

15 Registration – Step 2 Fill in & Sign the Disclaimer and bring it to the SP (will be sent to leaders before the event in early Nov OR download it from OTW website) Collect the Disclaimer at the counter if you don’t have a copy Collect and fill in the Change of Team Member Form if necessary

16 Registration – Step 2 For both Disclaimer and Change of Member Form, ensure names match correctly with A (the leader), B, C, D

17 Registration – Step 3 Collect Walkers’ bag outside the hall
Walkers’ bag include number cloth, barcode bracelets, energy food redemption coupon

18 Registration – Step 4 If necessary, hand in the completed Change of Team Member Form and pay HK$200 in cash for every member changed Return the signed Disclaimer/Indemnity Have your barcode scanned at the end of the registration table

28 Shuttle Bus Service Route: commuting between the barrier at Pak Tam Chung and CP2 (Pak Tam Au) Frequency: 40 mins From 12:00 noon (at Pak Tam Chung) to 10:20pm (at Pak Tam Au) on Friday, 18 Nov Free of charge

29 CP3 – Kei Ling Ha NO vehicles are allowed to access CP3 directly.
Loading/ Unloading/ Parking is NOT allowed around the entrance of the checkpoint

45 Control Point The Finish Point was relocated from Tuen Mun to Yuen Long in The new route is about 2km longer than the old route. Speed record was re-set from OTW 2009

46 Oxfam Distance Post After departing CP9, go towards Kat Hing Bridge, and follow the trail along the northern shore of Tai Lam Chung Reservoir. (Oxfam distance post: OTW175 – OTW198)

47 To Yuen Long Tai Tong Turn right towards the Yuen Long Tai Tong
(Wong Nai Tun Reservoir) direction after coming up from the reservoir

48 To Yuen Long Tai Tong Oxfam Distance Posts from OTW186 are set up along the route every 500m

49 Registered at Control Point
Arrive at Control Point after you reach the junction. All teams must register at this Control Point. Teams failing to do so will be disqualified. Then head towards Tai Tong direction.

50 Dirt trail and dizzying steps along the coming 1.5km route. Be careful!

Follow the Tai Lam Forest Track – Pak Kung Au Section. Beware of traffic! Then cross a stone bridge

55 To Wong Nai Tun Village Tai Tong Bus Stop
Turn left to the direction of Wong Nai Tun Village Tai Tong Bus Stop when you see another junction

56 To Wong Nai Tun Village Tai Tong Bus Stop
After walking about 500m, continue on the road to the direction of Wong Nai Tun Village Tai Tong Bus Stop

Continue to the direction of Wong Nai Tun Village Tai Tong Bus Stop

58 Arrive at the AFCD barrier. Continue to walk along pedestrian road

63 Green Gate Keep left when you see another junction.
Then arrive at a green gate (the back gate of PLK Jockey Club Tai Tong Holiday Camp). This gate will be opened ONLY during the event days.

64 To Finish Arch Walk/run for about 1km inside the Camp and Cross the Finish Line, TOGETHER!

74 Withdrawal during the walk
Must report your withdrawal to the organiser CPs 1, 5, 7 & 9 cannot be accessed by public transport (withdraw wisely!!!) If two members of a team have withdrawn, the other two members will not be allowed to continue until they have joined up with another team ** Once withdrawal is registered, no re-entry is accepted

At CPs : report the withdrawal obtain a Drop-out Certificate Between CPs: call the emergency number pass your bracelet to the continuing team members for the completion of the drop-out procedure at next CP

Bring fully-charged mobile phone/ torch Always display your number cloth to identify yourself as Trailwalker Before you attempt to overtake, please choose a safe section, and Say “hello” , “please…”, “thank you”…..

Take note of the posts, their location & numbering (M001- M174 and OTW175- OTW198)

79 In case of Emergency Stay calm NEVER leave an individual unattended
Go to the nearest CP for assistance If cannot move, call emergency number imprinted on your bracelet. Report the nearest distance post, your team number, state of injury & phone number If you call 999, quote that you are a Oxfam Trailwalker
