Joseph Mallord William TURNER 1775-1851 He was “like young people in general, he was singular and very silent, seemed exclusively devoted to the drawing, would not go into society, did not like “plays” and had for music “no talent” Was born in London on April 23, 1775 Studied with Thomas Malton and Dr. Thomas Monro From 1783-1793 had attended the Royal Academy Schools In 1790 had a water colour exhibited at the Academy

In 1799 he started meeting with Sarah Denby but they never married In 1802 he departed for the Continent to study Poussin and the Old Masters in the Louvre In 1803 he became a member of the Council In 1804 Turner decided to establish his own gallery In 1807 he was elected Professor of Perspective at the Academy He was known as “The White Painter” In 1819 he first visited Venice, the trip was a turning point in his life In 1809 he visited Petworth and was always welcome there his visits ebded in 1837 with the death of Lord Egremont He died on December 19, 1851

FISHERMEN AT SEA FISHERMEN AT SEA Turner preferred water colour, but later he experimented with oils. The first oil-painting which was exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1791.

THE FIGHTING TEMERAINE TUGGED TO HER LAST BERTH TO BE BROKEN UP Turner’s masterpiece and he was proud of this painting and called it “my darling”

CONVENTUAL CHANALS Due to the lack of sales Turner found a way in devoting much of his time to topographical work the engravers. He recognized that engravings did not lend themselves to attact.

The world which Turner saw Turner was called as an artist of picturesque views. His paintings predicted many science discoverings.
