YES! IF…. MESSAGES COMPOSED WITH YOUR LSU OR PERSONAL EMAIL ACCOUNT DISCUSS LSU RELATED TOPICS, STUDENTS OR EMPLOYEES THEN THE MESSAGES ARE CONSIDERED PUBLIC RECORDS WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?

BOTH ACCOUNTS FALL UNDER THE STATE PUBLIC RECORDS LAWS Emails related to the topic submitted in the LSU public records request will be read by the requestor, LSU Finance & Administration, your supervisor and can be published in a newspaper.

WHAT SHOULD YOU NOT DO….. DON’T USE YOUR LSU EMAIL ACCOUNT TO SEND PERSONAL MESSAGES DON’T WRITE ANYTHING IN YOUR LSU OR PERSONAL EMAIL THAT IS SLANDEROUS, DERAGATORY, OR NEGATIVE ABOUT AN LSU STUDENT, EMPLOYEE, OR SITUATION THE RULE OF THUMB IS …IF YOU DON’T WANT YOUR EMAIL READ BY THE REQUESTOR, FINANACE & ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES, YOUR SUPERVISOR OR APPEAR IN A NEWSPAPER, DON’T WRITE IT LSU AND PERSONAL EMAIL MESSAGES CAN BE USED IN COURT AND LSU CAN BE SUED IF YOUR MESSAGES ARE CONSIDERED SLANDEROUS AGAINST STUDENTS OR LSU EMPLOYEES
