Economic Nationalism- limiting trade to protect domestic industry. 2. High tariffs made it difficult for Europeans to sell goods in America, which then prevented Europeans from paying their debts. C. Speculation and Panic 1. The strength of the stock market in the 1920s led to an increase in market speculation. 2. The stock market crashed on Black Tuesday because people rushed to sell their stocks for inflated prices.
