1 11.5-6.12 Physical Vs Chemical Foldable
OBJ: We will identify chemical changes using evidence from our text book. S Calculate the density of the cube. V = M = D = -5 cm-

2 P/A Physical Property Chemical Property Chemical Vs. Physical
Physical Change Chemical Change

3 C Complete the section reviews on page 46 and page 51 You are making breakfast for your picky friend Al. You scramble some eggs for him, but he asks if you can take them back to the kitchen and make them hard boiled. Use your science vocabulary to explain why that is not possible. E

4 S 11.7.12 Foil Lab Is this chemical change or a physical change.
OBJ: We will identify chemical changes using evidence from our lab. S Is this chemical change or a physical change. JUSTIFY your answer.

5 P Title: Foil Lab Purpose: We will identify if a chemical change has occurred when we combined foil and easy off. Research: What is a chemical property? What is a physical property? What evidence is there if a chemical change has occurred?

6 P Hypothesis: If we combined foil and easy off then we will see a __________ change, because we will see _________ happen.

7 A Procedures: 1. Record the physical properties you can observe about easy off and foil Foil Easy off Physical properties observation before the reaction Observation during the reaction Physical properties after the reaction

8 C Read your data chart to your partner. Write down 3 things you can learn from the data that your lab partner read to you. Use Complete sentences

9 E Look back at your hypothesis. EXPLAIN if your hypothesis is valid or invalid. Ex: My hypothesis is ______ because when we combined foil and easy-off a ___________ occurs, because ___________, ____________, __________, and _____________are evidence of a ______ change.

10 Balloon Lab OBJ: We will identify chemical changes using evidence from our lab. S Label each letter correctly and give at least two physical properties C B A

11 P- work with a partner to sort the cards
P- work with a partner to sort the cards. Then create a T-chart and list the items where they belong. A- Title: Balloon and Flask LAB Purpose: Is it possible to use chemistry to inflate a balloon? Research: The production of gas is evidence of _______ change Materials: baking soda, vinegar, balloon, flask, graduated cylinders, funnel, safety goggles

12 Procedures: Measure 40mL of vinegar and pour it into the flask Measure 15 mL of baking soda. Use the funnel to pour the baking soda into the balloon Have one person hold the balloon while the other person stretches the balloon over the flask. Tip the balloon over and record your observation.

13 C- Explain how you were able to inflate the balloon using chemistry. E- What type of reaction did you create today. How do you know?

14 TEST DAY We will review and then take our exam using critical thinking skills.
