6 | SharePoint Saturday St. Louis 2015 Outline 6 | SharePoint Saturday St. Louis 2015 What is Microsoft Azure? In short, it’s Microsoft’s cloud platform: a growing collection of integrated services— compute, storage, data, networking, and app— that help you move faster, do more, and save money. But that’s just scratching the surface. Here’s what else Azure is….

7 | SharePoint Saturday St. Louis 2015 Outline 6 | SharePoint Saturday St. Louis 2015 It’s IaaS + PaaS Azure is the only major cloud platform ranked by Gartner as an industry leader for both infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) and platform- as-a-service (PaaS). This powerful combination of managed and unmanaged services lets you build, deploy, and manage applications any way you like for unmatched productivity

9 | SharePoint Saturday St. Louis 2015 Outline 6 | SharePoint Saturday St. Louis 2015 Infrastructure-as-a-Service Growth Gartner predicts that Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) will achieve a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 41.3% through 2016, the fastest growing area of public cloud computing the research firm tracks.

10 | SharePoint Saturday St. Louis 2015 Outline 6 | SharePoint Saturday St. Louis 2015 It’s hybrid ready Some cloud providers make you choose between your datacenter and the public cloud. Not Azure. Its enterprise-proven hybrid cloud solutions give you the best of both worlds, expanding your IT options without added complexity. With Azure, data storage, backup, and recovery become more efficient and economical. It’s also easier to build applications that span both on- premises and the cloud.

11 | SharePoint Saturday St. Louis 2015 Outline 6 | SharePoint Saturday St. Louis 2015 It’s open and flexible Azure supports any operating system, language, tool, and framework— from Windows to Linux, SQL Server to Oracle, C# to Java. It puts the best of Windows and Linux ecosystems at your fingertips, so you can build great applications and services that work with every device.

15 | SharePoint Saturday St. Louis 2015 Outline 6 | SharePoint Saturday St. Louis 2015 It’s always up, always on You’ll share the same enterprise-tested platform that powers Skype, Office 365, Bing, and Xbox. Azure offers a 99.95% availability SLA, 24x7 tech support, and round-the-clock service health monitoring. That’s why more than 57% of Fortune 500 companies rely on Azure today. From live streaming Olympic events to online multiplayer online games, our customers are doing some amazing things.

16 | SharePoint Saturday St. Louis 2015 Outline 6 | SharePoint Saturday St. Louis 2015 Microsoft Datacenter Experience Today, we manage 200+ global services, running 24x7 9.9 billion messages a day via Windows Live Messenger 600 million unique users monthly on Windows Live and MSN 1 Petabyte+ of updates served monthly Windows Update 5M LiveMeeting conference minutes per year 200 billion+ authentications through Windows Azure AD

17 | SharePoint Saturday St. Louis 2015 Outline 6 | SharePoint Saturday St. Louis 2015 It’s economical and scalable Azure can quickly scale up or down to match demand, so you only pay for what you use. Per-minute billing and a commitment to match competitor prices for popular infrastructure services like compute, storage and bandwidth means you’re always getting unbeatable price for performance.

18 | SharePoint Saturday St. Louis 2015 Outline 6 | SharePoint Saturday St. Louis 2015 It’s everywhere Azure runs on a growing global network of Microsoft-managed datacenters across 19 regions, giving you a wide range of options for running applications and ensuring your customers always get great performance. Azure is the first multinational cloud provider in mainland China and is continuing to expand to new regions around the globe.

23 | SharePoint Saturday St. Louis 2015 Outline 6 | SharePoint Saturday St. Louis 2015 SharePoint 2013 in Microsoft Azure With the virtual machine and virtual network services of Azure, it is now possible to deploy and operate an Internet-facing or intranet- only Microsoft SharePoint Server 2013 farm with SQL Server AlwaysOn Availability Groups in Azure. 24 24 | SharePoint Saturday St. Louis 2015 Outline 6 | SharePoint Saturday St. Louis 2015 Azure Virtual Machines Azure allows you to create a virtual machine running Windows Server or other operating systems. After you create a virtual machine in Azure, you can access it like any other server and delete or re-create it whenever needed. Azure virtual machines are built from virtual hard disks (VHDs). These VHDs are the same as the VHDs used by Hyper-V and can be transferred to and from your existing environment. Azure provides specific combinations of CPU cores and memory known as virtual machine sizes. When you create a virtual machine you have to select a specific size. This size can be changed after deployment.

26 | SharePoint Saturday St. Louis 2015 Outline 6 | SharePoint Saturday St. Louis 2015 Azure Virtual Machines A-series VMs are designed to run general purpose compute. D-series VMs are designed to run applications that demand higher compute power and temporary disk performance. D- series VMs provide faster processors, a higher memory-to- core ratio, and a solid-state drive (SSD) for the temporary disk. DS-series VMs can use Premium storage, which provides high-performance, low-latency storage for I/O intensive workloads. It uses solid-state drives (SSDs) to host a virtual machine’s disks and offers a local SSD disk cache. Premium storage is in Preview and is available in certain regions. G-series VMs offer the biggest size and best performance and run on hosts with Intel Xeon E5 V3 family processors.

For block blobs only. Same as LRS, plus multiple asynchronous copies to a second datacenter hundreds of miles away Same as GRS, plus read access to the secondary datacenter Total copies3366 Why use it For economical local storage or data governance compliance An economical, higher durability option for block blob storage For protection against a major datacenter outage or disaster Provides read access to data during an outage, for maximum data availability and durability Availability SLA99.9% read/write 99.9% write 99.99% read

31 | SharePoint Saturday St. Louis 2015 Outline 6 | SharePoint Saturday St. Louis 2015 Azure Virtual Network Virtual Network Gateways Static routing VPNs - Static routing VPNs are also referred to as policy-based VPNs. Policy-based VPNs encrypt and route packets through an interface based on a customer-defined policy. The policy is usually defined as an access list. Dynamic routing VPNs - Dynamic routing VPNs are also referred to as route-based VPNs. Route-based VPNs depend on a tunnel interface specifically created for forwarding packets. Any packet arriving on the tunnel interface will be forwarded through the VPN connection. A dynamic routing VPN gateway is required for Multi-Site VPN, VNet to VNet, and Point-to-Site.
