1. 2009 AIA Florida/Caribbean Design Awards Instructions Slide Upon downloading file from your email please save file as submittal number.ppt. Utilize the submittal number provided by AIA Florida in the upper right corner where indicated for each project submitted. Each project submitted must have a separate PowerPoint file and be designated with the assigned submittal number. Each project submittal file size must not exceed 10 MB. Slide 1 is for instruction purposes only and should not be included in the submittal. Slide 2 is the program requirements and project title/data slide. The project title/data slide must be the first slide of each presentation and shall contain the information requested. Provide a minimum of ten (10) and a maximum of twenty (20) PowerPoint color slides, including the title slide and the project data slide. More than one image may be placed on each slide if desired. Do Not use slide transitions or animations in your submittal. If the name of the project is on the building and you can tell what the logo is, blur it out. The right side of image slides can be used for a brief description of the image. Be concise and use Arial Font only and minimum 10 pt type. DO NOT change the layout of the slides. The final slide in your presentation should be the Project Identification Slide. This slide WILL NOT be seen by the jury. It is for AIA Florida office purposes only and will be removed from your presentation before reaching the jury. Remove this slide before submitting. Friction driven heavy timber piles. Corrugated aluminum roofing panels. Cypress planking.Composite Decking. Program Requirements: This project redevelops 3,000 linear feet of shoreline destroyed during Hurricane Charley. The initial steps taken in creating this park included the acquisition of privately held parcels to ensure that the area would be preserved for future generations. The project took into consideration links to the community for access by walkers, cyclists, motor vehicles, canoe and kayakers. This park will provide the surrounding neighborhood and future generations of park users with a glimpse into the historic vistas that attracted settlers to Charlotte Harbor. Amenities include several grassed and paved parking areas, picnic and pavilion areas restroom, play ground, boardwalks, sidewalks shell pathways and interpretive gathering places along with installation of water and sewer restoration and storm drainage systems for treatment and attenuation. Public participation was important in preserving a neighborhood feel for the park. This project will provide a venue for the history of the area to be presented in a natural setting. Public workshops helped the team to successfully gather valuable input from local residents, potential users, and interested civic groups such as the Charlotte Harbor Redevelopment Authority, and the local Historical Society. The Architect’s responsibilities include the design for the kiosks, picnic shelters, large covered pavilion, water pavilion and restroom structure. The historical theme of the park has influenced the design of the structures, which draw from early construction techniques used throughout the area. As a result, many of the structures employ heavy timber framing with pile foundations as their structural system.
