2
What are Measures of Central Tendency?
Measures of central tendency are used to determine the best representation of a group of data with one number. Numerical data is needed. You chose one or all of these three… MEAN, MEDIAN, and MODE.
3
WHAT DOES THAT MEAN? The mean is another word for the average of a set of numerical data. The median is the “middle” number in a set of data The mode is the number that occurs most in a set of data.
4
How to Find the Mean, Median, and Mode
What Data is Necessary? Mean – add up all the data and divide the sum by the number of pieces of data. Median – line up the data from least to greatest and find the middle number. If there is an even number of data, the two middle numbers are averaged. Mode – Organize all the data and see which values appear most often.

Quiz Problem Answer the following questions with the graph given above. What is the mean? What is the mode? What is the median? 20 minutes 10 minutes 15 minutes
7
Advantages and Disadvantages
Some advantages include: Can be used for multiple types of graphs. Is an easy way to represent a large group of data. Some disadvantages include: Can’t be used for circle graphs or categorical data. Doesn’t include the extremes of the data.
