5 What is the Back-Up Care Advantage Program?
child care centers in-home adult care in-home child care We know that employees may struggle to balance the competing demands of work and family. The Back-Up Care Advantage Program is a nationwide service offering employees access to a network of child care centers and in-home care providers to offer a temporary solution when regular care arrangements break down or become unavailable. Center-based care is available for children and in-home care is available for all ages – children through adults.

6 Reasons to Use Back-Up Care
Planned Un-Planned Caregiver vacations School closed due to weather School breaks Mild illness After minor surgery Provider quit For example, you can use back-up care for PLANNED needs such as caregiver vacations, school holidays or breaks, after a scheduled surgery, or if you are traveling for business and temporary assistance is needed. The program can also be used for those UNPLANNED moments, when school closes for inclement weather, your child or parent is mildly ill, your primary care provider has quit unexpectedly, or you are between full-time care arrangements. You can now have peace of mind knowing that back-up care is available so you can get to work. Business travel In between care

7 Center-Based Child Care
Bright Horizons and network centers Infants through preschool (some school age) Licensed and accredited References verified CPR and First Aid training I’d like to take a moment and review the details of your center-based child care options. Thousands of child care centers are available nationwide and include Bright Horizons centers as well as our extended network of non-Bright Horizons centers. Ages served will vary by location, however most centers serve infants starting at 6 weeks all the way through preschool. Some locations may have care available for school age children. Bright Horizons has a dedicated Provider Relations team who manage the recruitment of quality, licensed and accredited centers. Centers who would like to participate in the extended network program must comply with hiring practices, including verification of education background, personal references, and background checks, and staff must be trained in health and safety procedures such as CPR and First Aid.

8 In-Home Child Care Mildly ill care Well care too!
Common cold Low grade fever Ear infection Well care too! Quality nanny and home health agencies Home health aides, personal care assistants and nannies The in-home child care component of back-up care can be used for a couple of reasons. The first is mildly-ill child care. Mildly ill care is defined as care for an illness that is temporary and non-progressive in nature. Some mild illnesses may include a common cold, low-grade fever or ear infection. In-home care can also be used for well child care. For example, your child might be more comfortable in a familiar home setting as opposed to a center environment, or perhaps the closest center is not a convenient option. Similar to the partner centers who join the back-up care network, Bright Horizons has partnered with quality nanny and home health care agencies that specialize in child care. Caregivers from these agencies are sent to your home and typical caregivers include home health aides, personal care assistants and nannies.

9 In-Home Adult/Elder Care
Not just for children! Spouse/partner Adult children Parents Recovering from illness, surgery or injury Primary caregiver unavailable Assist with activities of daily living Caregiver sent to the home Care is available nationwide Many people think they don’t need back-up care because they don’t have children, but the program is available for adults who may need temporary care, such as your spouse/partner, adult children and parents. An adult may need temporary care if they are mildly ill, recovering from minor surgery or injury, or if they have a primary caregiver and that person is unavailable due to illness or vacation. In-home caregivers can assist an adult with what we call “activities of daily living”, such as help with minor chores, light housekeeping and meal preparation, as it relates to the direct care of the adult. Caregivers can also assist with personal care services such as bathing and grooming. Caregivers are sent either to your home or the home of the adult receiving care. The great thing about adult care is that the adult does not have to live with the employee. Because we offer a nationwide network of in-home providers, even if the adult needing care lives in a different community or state, you can still take advantage of the program.

10 In-Home Care FAQs What criteria is required for inclusion in the network? Meet state requirements Must validate hiring practices Appropriate background screening Can I meet a caregiver in advance? Yes! A “meet and greet” can be scheduled If I like a caregiver, can I request them in the future? Yes! Bright Horizons will work to secure a preferred caregiver We understand that there is a natural hesitancy about using in-home care and having a stranger come into your home. At Bright Horizons we take this very seriously, so I want to take a minute and review just a few of the frequently asked questions we receive about in-home care. What criteria is required for inclusion in the network? In-home agencies admitted into the back-up care network are identified as conforming to the regulatory requirements of the state in which they operate, and this includes compliance with required staff credentials and background screenings. In addition, Bright Horizons requires in-home agencies to validate their hiring practices - for example, outlining the agency’s background screening process, which includes verification of identification, education, previous employment, professional references and criminal records checks. Can I meet a caregiver in advance? Employees may request to set up a “meet and greet” to meet the caregiver in advance. I’ll talk about uses and fees a bit later, but do want to note that the employee is charged a use and any applicable co-pay even for a “meet and greet.” However, if this gives you more peace of mind, then it’s definitely worth the cost. If I like a specific in-home caregiver, can I request them in the future? Yes. Bright Horizons will work to secure care with a preferred in-home caregiver. However, the caregiver may not always be available if they are confirmed for another family’s care request.

12 Program Policies Uses and Fees 80 hours of back-up family care year
Co-pay structure Center care: $2.50/child/hour In-home care: $5/hour, per caregiver (Copayments are collected by Bright Horizons) Cancellation Policy After 5:00 p.m. counts as use with co-pay Now I’d like to take a moment and review some program policies. There are limits on use and a small fee to use the program. 80 hours of back-up family care year Co-pay structure Center care: $2.50/child/hour In-home care: $5/hour, per caregiver (Copayments are collected by Bright Horizons) Due to the nature of back-up care, we do expect cancellations and ask that employees cancel reservations no later than 5:00 p.m. the business day prior to the scheduled day of care. Late cancellations will count as a use and your co-pay will still apply.

13 Bright Connections Before we finish, I want to introduce you to our newest website resource– Bright Connections! The purpose of the site is to provide employees a “one-stop shop” that houses many of our back-up care resources including information on upcoming events such as webinars as well as links to our archived series. Another great feature in Bright Connections is the place to share information with each other. By clicking on our “Connect” section, working caregivers (like you!) can network with others managing similar dependent-care issues, posting comments on various back-up care topics and sharing advice. Feel free to click on the link here or copy and paste into your Internet browser. Please note: This portal is separate from the back-up registration and reservation site. Bright Connections is a web resource that provides relevant information for employees and their family’s caregivers: New and archived webinars on relevant family topics Upcoming Bright Horizons and center events Additional child and adult/elder care resources Visit Bright Connections © 2013 Bright Horizons Family Solutions LLC

14 First Time User – Center Based No Co-Pay promotion
Bright Horizons will waive an employee’s center based co-pay if they choose center based care the first time they use the Back- Up Care Advantage Program.   The promotion is done at the employee level (not the dependent level) so if an employee’s first reservation request of the program year is for well child care, and they choose center based care, they will have their co-pay waived. CRDs/CEMs: This promotion is for any U.S. BUCA client that has: 1) both center-based and in-home child care and  2) a BH collected and retained co-pay.
