Southern Regional Education Board HSTW About the MMGW Surveys MMGW is a research-based school improvement model Required of MMGW sites in even-numbered years Administered to 8th-grade students to collect data on entire middle grades experience Administered to all teaching staff to collect teacher’s views on improving student achievement

Southern Regional Education Board HSTW Administering the Surveys 1. Place order Order window October 3 – November 30, 2011 Orders must be placed online on SREB website State may require a paper copy All communication and materials will be sent to contact person listed on order form

Southern Regional Education Board HSTW Information needed to place order Name, email address and phone number of contact person (will receive all materials and communication via mail and email through summer 2012) Complete shipping address (no P.O. boxes) Principal name, email address and phone number Sampling method and number of students to be surveyed Payment information and billing address Dates the school plans to survey within window Estimated number of teachers to be surveyed

Southern Regional Education Board HSTW Payment Information If your school or district is paying for the surveys, a purchase order is due to SREB by December 16, 2011 to confirm your order Final payment is due to SREB by April 30, 2012 SREB will accept payments beginning immediately (call Fran Cowart at 404-879- 5611 to request an early invoice)

Identify students Use sampling plan selected on order All eighth-grade students Random sample of at least 100 eighth-grade students Include all currently enrolled students in sampling Use sampling instructions provided to select sample All teachers should participate in the teacher survey

Scheduling Identify assistants Schedule dates, times and locations All students will need access to a computer Include make-up sessions Schedule date, time and location for teacher survey All teachers will need access to a computer Notify students and teachers

Southern Regional Education Board HSTW Administering the Surveys 5. Prepare student roster form Include names of all participating students Include details about students who may not have completed the entire survey Keep fully completed roster on file with records for five years

Administer surveys Student and Teacher Window: February 6 – March 2, 2012 See instructions on how students and teachers should log-in to surveys online If Teacher Survey is not administered in a group setting, collect completion forms from teachers
