21 FP7 Structure: Funding Schemes CP(CP):Collaborative Projects (CP): support for research projects carried out by consortia with participants from different countries, aimed at developing new knowledge, new technology, products, demonstration activities or common resources for research. NoE(NOE):Networks of Excellence (NOE): support for a joint program of activities implemented by a number of research organisations, integrating their activities in a given field, and carried out by research teams in the framework of longer-term cooperation. CSA(CSA) -Coordination & Support Actions (CSA) - : support for activities aimed at coordinating or supporting research activities and policies, such as networking, exchanges, trans-national access to research infrastructures, studies, and conferences. 9/5/2015

27 International Cooperation Budget: €185 million (2007 - 2013) More than 100 countries from all over the world are involved in EU Research Programmes. These activities will continue within the "Cooperation" programme of FP7, which covers the international cooperation actions in the 10 thematic areas and across themes. They will be implemented in coordination with the "Cooperation", "People" and "Capacities" programmes of FP7. "Cooperation", 9/5/2015
28
FP7 – What’s new? Main new elements compared to FP6: –Duration increased from 5 to 7 years (except for Euratom FP) –Annual budget increased significantly –New structure: Cooperation, Ideas (ERC), People, Capacities, Euratom and JRC activities –Basic research (~ €1 billion per year): European Research Council –Funding of research infrastructures –Flexible funding schemes –Simpler procedures
29
Key factors for success in applying for FP7 funding Competition is tough: only the best projects get funded the proposal must address the topic and the work programme (not wishful thinking) the consortium of partners must be excellent and appropriate for the task (select the right partners) the proposal must address all 3 criteria convince the evaluators (don’t rely on reputation) and, of course, respect the basic rules (deadlines, n° participants, ceilings, length, ethics, …) 9/5/201529
