Areas and Positions

Defensive positions: Outfield Usually the fastest players on the team. 1. Left fielder: Strong arm. Good defense. 2. Center fielder: Fast & quick. Strongest defense in the outfield. 3. Right fielder: Strong arm. Less skilled.

Objective: I will… Analyze the offensive and defensive rules of baseball in preparation for gameplay.

Scoring The main objective of baseball is to score more runs than the opposing team. Runs are tallied any time an offensive player advances to 1 st base, 2 nd base, 3 rd base, and then home base. Runs can be made by… – Homerun or grandslam – Driving a run in by base hit

Innings There are 9 innings in a baseball game. The visiting team always bats first which allows the home team to bat last. Each batting team has 3 outs per inning.

Scoreboard

Scoreboard continued… The game always starts at the TOP of the first inning. The game always ends at the BOTTOM of the 9 th inning. Unless the game is tied after 9 innings of play. Extra innings: Home team always gets last at bats.

Pitch Count 3 strikes you’re OUT!!! 4 balls = Walk: batter advances to first base. Fouls = strikes Batters get an unlimited amount of fouls.

Gameplay Analyze a real baseball game.

Exit Slip: Sec 4 Gameplay How do you win in baseball? What is it called when a runner makes it to home base without getting out? The game starts and ends at what inning? Read this scoreboard. What inning is it, and what is the score?

Do Now 1. What is the pitch count? 2. How many runners are on base and which bases are they on? 3. What inning is the game currently in? 4. What is the score and who is winning

Baseball Unit 1.Field & Boundaries 2.Batting, Pitching, Fielding 3.Positions 4.Rules and Gameplay 5.History part 1 6.History part 2
