1 Study Skills & Mentoring Program Tim Strike Acting Academic Manager ELICOS

2 MIT offers a free Study Skills support Program. It plays an important role in ensuring that a high quality service is provided to students. The purpose of Study Skills is to improve students academic performance and to assist students experiencing difficulties with their studies. What is Study Skills?

3 What Can I Learn? Study Skills covers the following areas: Researching and Referencing Skills Report and Essay writing structure. Oral Presentations Time Management Skills Exam Preparation Overall Strategies for Understanding Concepts and Applying them

4 What time is it? Level 7 Monday-Friday 1:00-3:00pm Students are required to complete a Study Skills Centre Application Form and return it to the Level 7 counter.

6 What is the Mentoring Program? The Mentoring Program is a free service which puts students who have excelled in their studies – mentors – in contact with students who are having difficulties – mentorees.

7 How can it help me? The Mentoring Program can help Students having difficulties in the following areas: General Study Skills Understanding Concepts in a particular subject Understanding what is expected in an assignment Referencing and Plagiarism

8 How can I arrange Mentoring? Students are required to fill out a Mentor Application Form This can be done on Level 7, at the Assignment Counter, or on the MIT website
