www.groundwork.org.uk Hotel sector overview Overall, the UK hotels sector has seen room supply increase at record levels in many cities In GM, the sector employs 77,000 FTE jobs - forecast to grow by 7,700 by 2022 Global tourism projected to increase to 1.8 billion traveller by 2030. GM welcomes over 1 million internal visitors a year Room occupancy across GM hotels in 2011 was 75% - highest level in 3 years Manchester was one of only a few cities across the UK to achieve growth in profit per room during 2011 (4&5 star hotels) Rapid growth in conferencing and events fuelling growth in hotels GM conference market valued at £573 million generating more than 4 million delegates needing accommodation Planned developments - businesses and brands looking to expand into the GM hotel sector
