1 Photosynthesis

2 Sentence Please write a sentence using at least 3 of the following words: Photosynthesis, reaction, sugar, sun, water, carbon dioxide, oxygen, products, reactants, plant

3 Paragraph Now, in your group of 4, share your sentences.
Then, use your sentences to help you write a paragraph connecting ALL of the words below. Photosynthesis, reaction, sugar, sun, water, carbon dioxide, oxygen, products, reactants, plant ***Have one person write and the paragraph to the group! ***This is like your “best guess.” No looking up anything!

4 Share Choose a speaker for your group (cannot be the writer) and share your paragraph when I call on your group.

5 Grab the “P-R Worksheet” document in Moodle and open in Notability.
Photosynthesis Grab the “P-R Worksheet” document in Moodle and open in Notability.

6 Getting Started First, draw a symbol to represent each item in the grid. Next, cut each item out, using the scissors, and put on the correct side of the tree for PHOTOSYNTHESIS. ***Think about what you already know about plants! COMES OUT GOES IN

7 Read text book page 94 and answer the questions on your worksheet.
Your task Read text book page 94 and answer the questions on your worksheet.

8 Chemical Equation for Photosynthesis
carbon dioxide + water + light energy  glucose + oxygen Photo = light Synthesis = combining parts to make something Photosynthesis = combining water and carbon dioxide (with the help of the sun) to make sugar! REACTANTS PRODUCTS

9 Importance of Photosynthesis:
1. FOOD Produces food for almost all organisms. Challenge – Can you think of a food that is NOT somehow traced back to a plant? 2. “FRESH” AIR Removes carbon dioxide from, and adds oxygen to, the atmosphere.

10 Photosynthesis Song

11 Respiration

12 Warm- Up Again, draw a symbol to represent each item in the grid.
COMES OUT GOES IN Again, draw a symbol to represent each item in the grid. Next, cut each item out, using the scissors, and put on the correct side of these organisms for RESPIRATION.

13 Respiration (the whole truth!)
Since plants AND animals have living cells, they both need to do respiration to make energy for those cells. Plants just make the food that their cells eat! OR

14 Chemical Equation for Respiration
oxygen + glucose carbon dioxide + water + ENERGY (ATP) Respiration = the process of breaking down glucose (in the presence of oxygen) to make ATP ENERGY! REACTANTS PRODUCTS

15 Respiration (the whole truth!)
Since plants AND animals have living cells, they both need to do respiration to make energy for those cells. Plants just make the food that their cells eat! COMES OUT GOES IN OR

16 Read text book page 95 and answer the questions on your worksheet.
Your task Read text book page 95 and answer the questions on your worksheet.

17 Importance of Respiration:
ENERGY (ATP) is like the fuel of the cell. ENERGY (ATP) allows cells to build and move things around to keep the organism alive. Remember, ALL living things need and use ENERGY (ATP).

18 What’s the Connection? Look over the diagram on pg. 96 and read the FIRST paragraph on pg. 97, then answer this question: What is the relationship between photosynthesis and respiration?

19 Photosynthesis Photosynthesis Draw it (Use the whole page – sideways?)
SUN Photosynthesis Photosynthesis (Light Energy) Water (H20) + Carbon Dioxide (CO2) Oxygen (02) + Glucose/Sugar (C6H12O6) Chloroplast Mitochondrion ATP ENERGY Respiration

20 Fill out the chart below
Photosynthesis Respiration Reactants (all) Products (all) *Major Product* Organism Type (plant, animal, or both) Where in Cell

21 Answers Reactants (all) Products (all) *Major Product* Organism Type
Photosynthesis Respiration Reactants (all) Carbon Dioxide (CO2) Water (H2O) Sunlight Glucose (sugar) Oxygen (O2) Products (all) ATP Energy *Major Product* Organism Type (plant, animal, or both) Plants only Both (plants and animals) Where in Cell Chloroplasts Mitochondria

22 Exit Slip Write the chemical reaction for photosynthesis showing what goes in AND what comes out. Write the chemical reaction for respiration showing what goes in AND what comes out.
