8. How are you marked for an 8m essay? LORMS (you ought to know this by now) Level 1: ONE-SIDED ANSWER (1 – 3) Level 2: TWO-SIDED ANSWER (4 – 6) Level 3: GOOD TWO-SIDED ANSWER with CONCLUSION (7 – 8)

9. How to write an 8m essay? Plan: – Intro and conclusion (duh) – 3 points: 2 For 1 Against, or the other way round. Therefore, write 3 body paragraphs (if well- written, you would’ve gotten at least 6 marks!) – If the essay is on a given factor/policy, your first paragraph MUST be on the given factor/policy – Benefits & Limitations for every point!

10. What does into a paragraph for an 8m essay? P-E-E-L My PEEL is quite different from other teachers’ PEELs: Point Explanation/Example Evaluation Linkage Maybe it should be spelt P-E-E-E-L? When do you need this? Only in essays! When do you need this? Only in essays!

11. Evaluation In the guidance on How to write a paragraph I gave you on wiki in Week 1, I did not include evaluation. Why? Because we weren’t doing essay paragraphs Evaluation is: – Not necessary in a 2 – 6 mark question unless asked for – Absolutely necessary in an 8 mark essay question
