2 Let’s jump right in! Table 301.2(1) Wind design has changed from 90 to 115 for our region 97% of the country is now 115 mph wind category. This doesn’t effect much. Chapter 6 tables are basically the same. 301.3 Story Height The exception for wall bracing increases were taken out Other story heights changed to 11’ 7”

3 Table 302.1(1) Small changes to minimum fire separation distance 304.1- Habitable rooms Took out 120 sq ft rule- “All habitable rooms shall have a floor area of not less than 70 sq ft” 315.3 NEW C/O detectors –” Where a fuel burning appliance is located within a bedroom or it’s attached bathroom, a carbon monoxide detector shall be installed within the bedroom

4 NEW 324 Solar- brought in Fire Code requirements for accessible clearances on roofs- no change NEW 326 All pool and spa requirements are now in the International Pool & Spa Code 403.1 footing tables and figures NEW figures with references 602.10 Braced Walls 602.10.3(1)- use the 115 mph wind charts(from301.2(1)) very little change- formulas still the same- all prescriptive methods for BWL & BWP remain the same But be careful on the wall height 11’7” now for wind and seismic (301.3)

5 602.12 Simplified wall bracing This section now applies to our area- Exposure C The design must include all the criteria listed in 602.12 602.12- Other methods not allowed- must meet all the requirements 1. No more than 3 stories 2. Floors not cantilevered more than 24” 3. 10’ Max wall height 4. 15’ Max eave-to-ridge height 5. ½” gyp board on interior 6. Exposure B or C (SV) 7. Seismic A, B (SV) or C 8. No cripple walls in the 3 rd story 602.12.1- Circumscribed Rectangle- 60’ max per side (all encompassing) 602.12.2- Min. Sheathing either 3/8 wood or ½ fiber board- NO mixing methods 602.12.3- Bracing units- Exterior only, full height, no openings, no offsets 1. Full shear- minimum 3’ bracing unit 2. Intermittent shear- 4’ bracing unit 602.12.3.1- no contributing length narrower than required 602.12.4- Required number of BU- table 602.12.4 602.12.5- Placement of BU’s 1. Less than 12’ from a wall corner 2. less than 20’ between BU’s 3. Walls 8’ and greater, no less than one BU 602.12.6- Narrow panels methods for; - CS-G 50% of required BU (garage) - CS-PF 75% of required BU (Full shear) - ABW & PFH- 100% of required BU - PFG- 75% of required BU

6 Sections 606, 607, 608 &609 Organized into one section- 606 General Masonry Construction 802 tables All 802 tables have small changes to spans -Chapter 11- Energy Efficiency The amendment still applies for Energy Code requirements. The City is still on the 2006 Chapter 11Energy section of the IRC. 1411.4 Condensate pump- when the pump fails, it shuts off the equipment it serves. 1502.4.2 The amendment still remains- no screws in the dryer duct.

7 Chapter 23 Was Solar Energy Systems, now Solar Thermal Energy Systems 2301.4 Heat transfer liquids- no Ethylene Glycol in closed PV water heaters 2439.7.2 Again, no screws in the dryer duct. 2502.1 Test of UG plumbing system- Entire system replace shall be internally examined. 2708.2 Shower drain now specified as 1 ½”

8 2802 New thermostatic mixing valve for solar thermal 2901.2 Identification of Non potable water systems 2906.4.1 Sewer/water separation- 5’ if listed pipe is not used Table 3001.1(2) took out asbestos 2910, 2911, 2912 & 2913 ALL NEW New non potable water, reuse, rainwater collection and reclaimed water usage requirements

9 3005.2.- Clean outs required 2.2- building sewers, c/o manholes 2.3- took out inside or outside 2.9- Clearance to obstructions for differing pipe sizes18” & 36” 2.10- no concealed c/o New 3009 Subsurface landscaping irrigation 3405.4 Panel board indoor or outdoor Outdoor, nothing in the required space Most changes to chapter 36 & 39 Most changes are just adjusting to 2014 NEC

10 4204.3 Conductive surface in a pool Updated from 2014 NEC IRC Appendix G- Deleted All pool regulations are now in the International Pool & Spa Code All the same regulations and amendments- save the electrical

11 Major local amendment changes IRC local amendment #4 At section 105.1, add section 105.1.1; “Permit requirements based on size for accessory, detached structure- -0-200 sq. ft. – permit required; only plot plan required, no plans. -201-399 sq. ft.- - permit and construction plans required; foundation with minimum 8” turn down, 1- #4 cont., std AB’s, UFER. -Exception: In lieu of required foundation, an engineered anchoring system prepared by an Arizona Registered Design Professional may be used. -400+ sq. ft. – permit and construction plans required; full foundation and UFER (All from City standards already in place) IBC local Amendment #17 At Section 708.1, insert number 6 to read: Walls separating tenant spaces. Except in existing buildings where the occupancy change does not increase the hazard level based on life and fire risk. IMC local amendment #8 At section 202, add the definition, “Warming Kitchen- A facility or portion thereof, for the utilization of domestic cooking appliances used to reheat precooked and/or pre-prepared meals. IMC local Amendment #10 At section 507.1.2, insert after the paragraph, “Exception- Domestic cooking appliances used in a “Warming Kitchen”. Domestic appliances must still meet the provisions of section 505.
