Genesis 1 30 “And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat”: and it was so. Man eats only herbs and fruit. Animals eat only herbs.
5
Genesis 2 16 And the L ORD God commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the gar- den thou mayest freely eat: 17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it … Animals eat only herbs.

LXX Model of Vegetation 1.Herb → Seed → Herb 2.Tree → Fruit → Seed → Tree NIV uses this model. Genesis 1 11 Then God said, “Let the land pro- duce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds.” And it was so.
14
LXX Model of Vegetation 1.Herb → Seed → Herb 2.Tree → Fruit → Seed → Tree NIV uses this model. Genesis 1 12 The land produced vegetation: plants bearing seed according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.
15
LXX Model of Vegetation 1.Herb → Seed → Herb 2.Tree → Fruit → Seed → Tree In the beginning, God created all plants, but only allowed two types to grow: 1.Herbs that man and animals ate. 2.Fruit trees that man ate of. This is in Gen. 2, a genealogical account.
16
Genesis 2 4 These are the generations of the heav- ens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the L ORD God made the earth and the heavens, The genesis of heaven and earth is genea- logical and not chronological.
17
Genesis 10 1 Now these are the generations of the sons of Noah, Shem, Ham, and Japheth: Shem is the youngest of the three. Genesis 11 27 Now these are the generations of Terah: Terah begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran; and Haran begat Lot. Abraham is the youngest of the three, more like a brother than an uncle to Lot.
18
Genesis 37 2 Now these are the generations of Jacob. Joseph … Joseph is the 11 th of 12. Genesis 1 is a chronological account of heaven and earth. Genesis 2 is a genealogical account of heaven and earth.
19
Genesis 2 7 And the L ORD God formed man of the dust of the ground … The most important thing to God is man. 1.man (2:7) 2.trees (2:9) 9 And out of the ground made the L ORD God to grow every tree that is …
20
Genesis 2 19 And out of the ground the L ORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam … The most important thing to God is man. 1.man (2:7) 2.trees (2:9) 3.animals (2:19)
21
Genesis 2 4 … in the day that the L ORD God made the earth and the heavens, 5 and every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew … Vegetation Model 1.Herb of Grass 2.Fruit Tree 3.Plant of Field 4.Grass of Field
22
P lant is general term for vegetation. G rass is a plant that is grown. H erb is a grass that is eaten. Vegetation Model 1.Herb of Grass 2.Fruit Tree 3.Plant of Field 4.Grass of Field 5 and every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every [grass] of the field before it grew …
23
P lants of the field not yet in the earth. G rass of the field not yet grown. T wo reasons for this: Vegetation Model 1.Herb of Grass 2.Fruit Tree 3.Plant of Field 4.Grass of Field 5 and every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every [grass] of the field before it grew …
24
Plants of the field not yet in the earth. Grass of the field not yet grown. Two reasons for this: Vegetation Model 1.Herb of Grass 2.Fruit Tree 3.Plant of Field 4.Grass of Field 5 … for the L ORD God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground.
25
Rain isn’t mentioned again until flood. Genesis 7 4 For yet seven days, and I will cause it to rain upon the earth forty days and forty nights … 1.It will rain, and when it does, it will last forty days. 2.It will rain, but unlike before, it will last forty days. What does He mean?
26
Rain isn’t mentioned again until flood. Genesis 9 12 And God said, “This is the token of the covenant which I make between Me and you and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations: 13 I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between Me and the earth.” Rainbow is mentioned after flood.
27
Rainbow is mentioned after flood. 13 I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between Me and the earth.” Rainbow is set by God in the cloud.
28
Genesis 2 5 … for the L ORD God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground. 15 And the L ORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it. Adam tills the garden, not the ground.
29
Genesis 3 17 … cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life; 18 thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field; Adam tills the garden, not the ground. Adam now eats the herb of the field. Plants once dormant, now grow.
30
Romans 5 12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin … Death does not occur until after sin.
31
John 12 24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, “Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.” Death does not occur until after sin. Seeds do not germinate until after sin.
32
Genesis 2 5 … for the L ORD God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground. 6 But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground. Earth is not watered until after sin. Seeds do not germinate until after sin.
33
God controls life by controlling water. 1.Until sin, water is in land of Eden. 2.Until flood, water is in the earth. 3.After flood, water is in atmosphere.
34
Genesis 2 6 But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground. אֵד mist πηγὴ fountain Revelation 21 6 … I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.
35
Genesis 2 6 But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground. 10 And a river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from thence it was parted, and became into four heads. A fountain forms a river to water Eden, which will water the earth.
