Course Information Throughout third and fourth year, Standard Grade Art focuses on three main areas of study, Expressive Activity, Design Activity and Critical Activity. Pupils can express their own ideas and feelings in expressive activity, whilst working with a variety of different mediums such as, fabric craft, drawing and painting. Expressive activity is assessed by the SQA during a five hour exam whilst Design activity is assessed by the class teacher. Critical activity encourages pupils to develop their own ideas and opinions on their own work and that of other artists. This is done in the form of a written essay and is submitted to the SQA for examination. After Standard Grade, pupils can progress to Higher level in S5 if they have gained a grade 1 or 2.
