Box with lid must mirror the same outside dimensions as the returnable container if the mass packaging is a returnable system. The lid should match outside dimension to prevent full layer of boxes from overhanging pallet. Corrugated layer pads are required when using boxes smaller than 24” x 15”. This adds stability to the pallet. Container weight cannot exceed 30 pounds when full. Part orientation should mirror the returnable container’s orientation if there is one. Hand held boxes and lids must not have staples as part of the construction method. (B) Wood Pallet Requirements DMMI’s standard wood pallet size is 48” x 45”. The supplier is expected to propose this size when submitting new expendable packaging specifications. (see drawing on page three) Pallet material must be adequate for weight of product. Using guidelines below: Light Products 1 to 599 lbs. Softwood Heavy products 600 lbs. and over Hardwood Softwood 48” x 45” pallets, for import, must be “heat” treated and identified. Wing style and block style pallets are not acceptable. Striping is required on the middle stringer to identify the size of the pallet (see drawing on page 3). Reconditioned pallets may be used but, broken stringers, rotten wood and bark on the pallets are not acceptable. No exposed fasteners are allowed.
