Biofuels Training Project/ Anoka-Ramsey Community College Goals: Train 44 participants in Bio-Fuels Production Techniques Outcomes: Build a partnership with industry (Ever Cat Fuels), ARCC, and workforce organizations to prepare people for jobs in the bio-fuels industry. Accomplishments to Date: Curriculum established, 22 current participants in training, continued recruitment efforts

Anoka Green!/BlueGreen Alliance Foundation Goals: Giving workers the green manufacturing and precision sheet metal training they need to get good, green jobs in Anoka County Outcomes: 50 new workers completing Anoka Green! and 47 of these finding training-related employment within 3 months Accomplishments to Date: More than 35 workers have graduated from Anoka Green!, and 91% of the first graduating class found jobs within a month of graduation.

Anoka Green!/BlueGreen Alliance Foundation Anoka Green! is an extension and major highlight of the BlueGreen Alliance Foundation’s US DOL grant – GreenPOWER GreenPOWER trainings began in July 2010 Over 900 people across 3 regions of MN have been trained in GreenPOWER with a 17% job placement rate.

Green Construction and Sustainability Awareness/Cement Masons Local 633 JATC Goals: To provide instruction on basic green construction concepts and sustainability awareness, green techniques for working with pervious concrete, polished concrete and American Clay plaster and OSHA safety. Also to prepare participants for the Green Associate Certification Exam. Outcomes: To train participants on sustainability and Green Construction Techniques for a better opportunity for employment as the job market recovers. Accomplishments to Date: At this time the Instructors are preparing for the Green Associates Exam.

Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency/Central Lakes College Goals: To train up to 10 Dislocated and 10 Incumbent Workers in the Renewable/Sustainable Industry in a five-county region (Cass, Wadena, Crow Wing, Todd, Morrison) in Central Minnesota. Provide up to 10 internships for the Dislocated Workers. Outcomes: We had recruited 8 Dislocated Workers and to date have trained 5 Dislocated Workers and 26 Incumbent Workers. Four students have started internships. Accomplishments to Date: We had recruited 8 Dislocated Workers and to date have trained 5 Dislocated Workers and 26 Incumbent Workers. Career Training in Green Construction/City Academy Goals: Train and educate 50 youth in energy efficient building, construction and retrofitting of existing buildings Outcomes: 40 youth in final stages of training; 10 youth completed Accomplishments to Date: 1 garage complete; 1 house in process of being rehabbed for low income family; Built and piloted winning solar boat in Mn Renewable Energy Solar Boat Regatta

Sustainable Building Policy Training / City of Saint Paul Goals: Develop a training curriculum and materials related to the Saint Paul Sustainable Building Policy (a model policy for Minnesota municipalities) Train individuals in the public and private sectors in Saint Paul about how to apply the policy to their projects Provide training to other municipalities about the model policy and the available curriculum

Sustainable Building Policy Training / City of Saint Paul Outcomes: 50 individuals will receive basic education services 10 individuals will receive support services Several cities will receive training about policy and curriculum Training materials will be made available on-line Accomplishments to Date: Executed contract with Center for Sustainable Building Research (sub-grantee) Developed majority of training curriculum and materials Provided preliminary overview training to city staff

Daikin McQuay Learning Institute/McQuay International Goals: Develop Graduate Engineering Training (GET), an extended term training course for recent college graduates that have been hired Sales Engineers, National Accounts Managers, Service Sales Engineers or Sales Application Engineers. Outcomes: To be a trusted reference source of HVAC, energy efficient design and sustainable HVAC systems knowledge. Provide technical training for building and energy engineers as well as maintenance personnel in the proper operation of advanced energy efficient HVAC equipment and systems. Provide training focusing on energy efficient and sustainable design Accomplishments to Date: Initial curriculum scoping and development. Project due to start Spring 2011.

Smart Grid Technology/DCTC & Siemens Goals: To train Line-workers and Electricians on the latest Smart-grid Technology Outcomes: Curriculum has been developed by Siemens/MNSCU Curriculum has been distributed to other Programs. Training is set to run 2011-12 School Year for 100 students Accomplishments to Date: DCTC taught the first sessions and trained 65 students Other colleges are reviewing curriculum for 2011-12 Curriculum will be distributed to other Programs.

Renewable Energy Internship/Easy Energy Systems, Inc. Goals: To provide quality employment and learning experiences for the youth of our area. Outcomes: Thus far, we have enrolled several interns in the program and continue to employ several people from previous internship experiences. Accomplishments to Date: The partnership with Martin County West High School has allowed the company to grow closer to the district and the community.

Solar PV Technical Sales and Solar PV Installer Program/HIRED Goals: Connect 20 un/under-employed job seekers to high wage, high demand positions in Minnesota’s rapidly growing solar energy sector. Outcomes: 20 participants will complete 250+ hours of NABCEP approved classroom instruction, completing Solar PV Technical Sales and/or Solar PV Installer program. Accomplishments to Date: Planning meeting to determine marketing, recruitment, and selection process.

Honeywell Goals: Partner with education and employment assistance providers to educate and place displaced adult workers in energy- related jobs Outcomes: Train 48 individuals, place 30 in energy-related jobs by June 2012 Accomplishments to Date: Developed two courses (one classroom, one eLearning) Trained 8 individuals in valuable, practical skills Scheduled 3 training sessions in late July

Green Wind Turbine Course/IUOE Local 49 Goals: Green skill upgrade – Wind Turbines Outcomes: Develop wind turbine industry skills for operators to meet the needs of the green wind energy construction industry Accomplishments to Date: Developing curriculum and beginning the process of upgrading crane simulator for wind turbine training.

LEED Green/Metro Area Sheet Metal JATC Goals: To provide LEED Green Associate training to over 300 sheet metal apprentices, journey-level workers and contractors. Outcomes: Improve green building skills to increase the likelihood that many of our unemployed members will be hired to work on green building projects. Accomplishments to Date: The JATC has had 63 members go through the LEED Green classes. 14 members have received LEED credentialing. 18 unemployed members have returned to work due to their LEED Green education.

Green Roof Training Roofers & Waterproofers Local 96 Goals: To provide Green Roof training to apprentice and journey-level members. These classes will include instruction on general green building and construction concepts, types of green roofing materials and their installation and green garden roofs. We will also prepare participants to take the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Associate (GA) Certification exam. The classes will provide participants with green skill- upgrades; fundamentally changing the way they approach their work and resulting in lasting improvements in the building environment throughout Minnesota.

Green Roof Training Roofers & Waterproofers Local 96 Outcomes: A more knowledgeable workforce that is prepared for the changing demands in the roofing industry. Accomplishments to Date: Contractors, members, suppliers and manufacturers' on board and ready to accept changes in our Training Program.

USGBC LEED AP and ISO 50001 Training/ South Central College Goals: To Provide training and establish curriculum in Green Construction and Energy for Southern Minnesota through Credit-Based and Customized Training. Provide the region and the state with the first ISO 50001 training. Outcomes: Provide training for industry and education professionals to assist in bringing “Green” construction projects to Southern Minnesota. ISO 50001 is a tool to reduce energy intensity use and carbon emissions in their own facilities and benchmark their achievements Accomplishments to Date: Able to provide training for more people than initially budgeted Established more regional and state partnerships in the areas of Green Construction and Energy awareness Collaboration with Dunwoody College of Technology Assistance and collaboration with the development of the USGBC Minnesota Mankato Chapter

Renewable Energy Maintenance Technician Project/SW MN Private Industry Council Goals: Pathway for under employed and under prepared adults to enhance basic academic abilities and obtain high-demand job skills in the renewable energy generation and biofuels industries. Training and certification for Renewable Energy Maintenance Technicians comprised of eight segments. Higher skill attainment, job placement, and expansion of career development opportunities, are the outcome from the programs. Outcomes: 75 participants receiving training 10 college credits $12.35-35.00 wage range Accomplishments: 62 participants 31 attained jobs

Energy Efficiency Training/Summit Academy OIC Goals: A.To give low income people vocational career training and job placement/retention services B.To increase the number of technicians trained in energy efficiency construction C.To boost income and stabilize families D.To invest in vocational training that also improves public infrastructure, particularly around green/energy efficient construction E.To lower energy bills, reduce energy consumption in Minnesota and ease pressure on non-renewable fossil fuels and the impact of their pollution Outcomes: A.Number of students beginning education/training (75) B.Number of participants receiving basic education services (75) C.Number of participants receiving grant-funded support (75) D.Number of participants completing education/training activities (45) E.Number of participants completing education/training activities who receive a degree/certificate (45) F.Number of participants that complete education/training activities that are placed in unsubsidized employment (35) G.Number of participants completing education/training activities that are placed in training related unsubsidized employment (28) H.Number of participants placed in unsubsidized employment who retain an employed status in the first and second quarters following initial placement (26) Accomplishments to Date: Launched recruiting efforts for the September enrollment

Project Name: “Green Awareness in the Mechanical Insulation Industry” Grantee: Twin City Area Heat & Frost Insulators Local 34 Joint Apprenticeship Committee Goals: Train approximately 81 apprentices in Green Awareness curriculum consisting of: USGBC designed LEED 101; 3E+ energy appraisal software. Outcomes: Provide signatory contractors with skilled workforce prepared to work in a changing industry. Also, provide participants a career in the mechanical insulation industry which has traditionally had high employment rates. Accomplishments to Date: 3 participants from the Rochester area have been registered with the Minnesota Department of Labor & Industry – Division of Voluntary Apprenticeship and are currently employed. 4 Pre Apprentices from our list of ranked candidates are working as provisional helpers in the industry. The list of ranked candidates will be used to fill our 1 st year apprenticeship class for the upcoming 2011 – 12 term.

Goals: Energy Trades Academy with Silver level National Career Readiness Credential OJT Contracts Contractor Business Model Workshops Evening Solar Installer Certificate Program Outcomes: 40 Academy participants 15 OJT Contracts 15 Contractors attending Business Model workshops 20 Solar Installer Scholarships Accomplishments to Date: Energy Trades Academy starts June 6 th with OSHA certification for participants Employers being contacted and informed of OJT opportunities Competitive equipment bids being obtained Planning with Riverland Community College
