8 USAGES 1. to describe an action completed at some definite time in the past. Ex : I lost my key yesterday. 2.to describe an action happening avor a period of time in the past. Ex : She lived in Nha Trang for 5 years.

9 3.to describe an action happening at the same time as (or after) another action in the past. Ex : I was watching TV when he came.

10 Note  Note : Some phrases indicating definite period of time/point of time in the past such as : last, ago, yesterday, in + year, from year to year, for + 2 days/ 2 months...

11 PAST PROGRESSIVE  I was studying English at this time last night. S + was/were + present participle  I was not playing tennis at that time yesterday. S + was/were + not + present participle  Were you studying in your room last night between 7 p.m and 9 p.m ? Was/were + S + present participle ?

12 USAGES 1.For an action going on at a given moment in the past. Ex : This morning, at half past six, it was raining heavily. 2.For an action going on between two points of time in the past. Ex : He was staying with us all last week. (from Monday to Friday)

13 PRESENT PERFECT  I have seen him in the park. S + have/has + past participle  She hasn’t finished her composition yet. S + have/has + not + past participle  Have they moved in ? Have/has + S + past participle ?

14 USAGES  to express the idea that sth happened or never happened before now. Ex : I have already read that story.  Note : used with for, since, express a situation that began in the past and continues to the present.
