1
Creative Writing Based on the work you have done on ‘Titanic’, you are now going to write a short story. This means the story will be made up. Your title will be : ‘The Journey’
2
Narration In this piece of work, the story teller (or narrator) is going to tell the story. This narrator is not in the story and is not the main character. You will use the words he, him, his, she, her, they, them and their in the story. You can not use the words I, me, my, we, us or our. The story will be told using the past tense - even if it is a modern day story.
3
Your central character Can be male or female, young or old Imagine what he or she is like and describe this person in great detail. Remember how you were introduced to Rose: her clothing, the way she spoke and the words she said, how other characters described her. This will be your opening paragraph
4
Setting The journey will take place on a ship, train, or plane. The story can be set in the past or more recently, but not in the future. Remember the detailed way we described the Titanic. Try to convey the atmosphere ( sight, sounds, smells) Use a range of vocabulary.
5
The story Your character has gone on a one-way journey. You must decide why he or she has decided to make that journey Something the character sees will trigger a memory. Write a paragraph describing the character’s life before the journey. What kind of future does he/ she expect?
6
The Turning Point Something must happen in every story to bring about the ending. This is called the turning point. In Titanic, the ship hit an iceberg. What will happen in your story? (It doesn’t need to be an accident.) Perhaps your character simply makes a realisation or meets someone or finds something.
7
The ending The end of the journey What is this destination? You may choose not to reveal the destination until the moment when the character arrives. What happens? What does the character feel on arrival. What does he/ she see hear etc. Suggest the mood: hope/ fear etc.
