3.1 Solve Linear Systems by Graphing

Vocabulary System of two linear equations: consists of two equations that can be written in standard or slope intercept form. Solution to a system of equations: ordered pair form, (x,y), which satisfies both equations. Solution can be find when graphing two equations by finding the point the lines intersect.

Systems of Inequalities have 3 types of Solutions: 1) one solution: lines intersect 2) no solution: lines do not intersect 3) infinitely many solutions: same line

Example: (EX 1) Graph the linear system and estimate the solution. Then check the solution algebraically. 4x + y = 8 2x – 3y = 18
