Article I= Legislative Branch – Makes the laws Article II= Executive Branch – Enforces the laws Article III= Judicial Branch – Interprets the laws Article IV= Relationship to the States Article V= Amending the Constitution Article VI= The National Debt, Supremacy Clause Article VII= Ratification of the Constitution

Due Process Due Process
Steps the government must take before they can take away life, liberty, property. Two Types: Substantive- Deals with the what (the substance, the policies) of governmental action Procedural- Deals with the how (the procedures, the methods) of governmental action.

Habeas Corpus Latin for “Bring forth the body”
An order from a court to a government official requesting and explanation of why an individual is being held. Usually done in the first 48 hours of an arrest, if not, a writ of habeas corpus may be issued.

Bills of Attainder Congress cannot pass laws depriving people of life, liberty, or property without a first providing a trial.

Ex Post Facto Laws Laws that make something a crime before it became a crime. Laws that are retroactive. May be passed if it is to the benefit of the people.
