Conclusions: the European perspective Directive is just a step in a long (20 years!) process Legislation is the beginning of a new period, not the end There is movement in the value chain, but further enforcement is needed It is now down to Member States, not the EC National policy makers need to enhance the functioning of the Directive: –Leading the public sector to comply –Shape an overarching national data policy –Helping the private sector to reap the benefits So let’s see how Spain is doing!
