Do your research to see what is available and possible –Housing.com or realestatejournal.com Know how much you can afford –Take 40% of your monthly income before taxes –This is how much you can afford in mortgage payments, insurance, property taxes, and other daily expenses for your home –Most mortgages average $1500, not including insurance or assessments

Decide where you want to live and what you want –Condo, co-op, home, townhouse Look for different rates –A fixed is one interest rate for about 30 years –An adjustable is short term and the interest rate changes according to the market –Be sure to research fees –Get pre-approved before looking –Find a real estate agent you feel comfy with
