LESSON 15 CONCLUSION TO THE TEN COMMANDMENTS
2
CONCLUSION TO TEN COMMANDMENTS What does God say about all these commandments? He says, “I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments.”
3
Conclusion(cont) What does this mean? God threatens to punish all who transgress these commandments. Therefore we should fear his anger and not disobey what He commands. But he promises grace and every blessing to all who keep these commandments. Therefore we should love and trust in him and gladly obey what he commands.

WHAT DOES GOD’S WILL REQUIRE?
5
Matthew 22:37-39 37 Jesus replied: “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.
6
What Does God’s Will Require? 1. That we love Him above all else. 2. That we love our neighbor as ourselves.
7
1 Corinthians 13:1-3 1 If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3 If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing.
8
What Does God’s Will Require? 1. That we love Him above all else. 2. That we love our neighbor as ourselves. 3. That we love in our thoughts, words, and actions.
9
THE CHRISTIAN’S REACTION TO THE TEN COMMANDMENTS
10
1 John 1:8 8 If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.
11
James 2:10 10 For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it.
12
Matthew 10:28 28 Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.
13
The Christian’s Reaction to the Ten Commandments 1. First, we confess our many sins, admit we can’t earn heaven by our works, and recognize God’s anger at sin.
14
Romans 3:20, 23-24, 28 20 Therefore no one will be declared righteous in his sight by observing the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of sin. 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. 28 For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from observing the law.
15
Romans 6:23 23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
16
The Christian’s Reaction to the Ten Commandments 1. First, we confess our many sins, admit we can’t earn heaven by our works, and recognize God’s anger at sin. 2. Second, we see that only by personal faith in Jesus are we justified (declared not guilty) and acceptable to God.
17
John 15:1-8 1 “I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. 2 He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. 3 You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. 4 Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. 5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. 6 If anyone does not remain in me, he is like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. 7 If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you. 8 This is to my Father's glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.
18
Ephesians 2:8-10 8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith–and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God– 9 not by works, so that no one can boast. 10 For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
19
Joshua 1:8 8 Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.
20
Psalm 112:1 1 Praise the LORD. Blessed is the man who fears the LORD, who finds great delight in his commands.
21
Psalm 119:32, 105 32 I run in the path of your commands, for you have set my heart free. 105 Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.
22
The Christian’s Reaction to the Ten Commandments 1. First, we confess our many sins, admit we can’t earn heaven by our works, and recognize God’s anger at sin. 2. Second, we see that only by personal faith in Jesus are we justified (declared not guilty) and acceptable to God. 3. Third, after being assured of salvation, we will seek to obey God and please Him as He commands.
