Purpose A volunteer program to provide health care to the under served in remote rural villages (campo/batey) and an opportunity for immersion and spiritual growth. ILAC - Summer Program in the Dominican Republic Some Spanish is required Some Spanish is required –Either Spanish 211 or equivalent –Or OTD 330 Spanish for Health Professionals –A non-credit Spanish course is offered for those accepted to participate in the ILAC Summer Program Spring semester – seven 2 hour classes offered, dates are on the Application form. Spirituality, Culture and History, and Personal Testimonies from men and women who experienced ILAC a number of years. –A survival Spanish course is required in the Dominican Republic –Participants are encouraged to take a Spanish course in the spring before the summer program if they have never had Spanish.

ILAC Summer Program in the Dominican Republic The immersion begins with a series of preparation meetings and a Retreat at Creighton University in the spring The immersion begins with a series of preparation meetings and a Retreat at Creighton University in the spring –Students are divided into teams with other undergraduate, dental, medical, nursing and pharmacy students, and doctors, dentists and registered nurses and pharmacists.

ILAC Summer Program in the Dominican Republic Travel to remote rural villages for two weeks Travel to remote rural villages for two weeks –Each participant lives with a Dominican family –Participants spend time with their Dominican families and adopted communities –Participants contribute to the community with community chosen “Charlas” (Nutrition, Exercise, Preventative Health, Disease states, Medications) and other activities –Participants reflect on their experiences through prayer, worship, journaling, and reflection. –Participants reflect on their experiences through prayer, worship, journaling, and reflection.
