(2012)  The minimum elements of an effective performance management system: ◦ Goal setting: the process of establishing objectives to be achieved over a period of time (Part I) ◦ Performance review: the process of assessing progress toward goals and achieving job related tasks. (Part II) ◦ Performance improvement plan: the process of addressing a specific individual performance issues and professional development (Part III)

6  Part I – Goals ◦ Campus Minister, Board and Young Adult Council set annual goals in July or August: ◦ Approved by Board in September ◦ Progress on Goals:  Reviewed by Board in November, January, March and May  Progress Report included in Report to BHECM on Jun 10th

7  Evaluate on all sections of Job Description: 1.Greater Church (5 elements) 2.Direct Ministry to United Methodist Students, Faculty, and Staff (3 elements) 3.Working with the Board, Young Adult Council, Staff and other administrative functions (8 elements) 4.Personal Development (2 elements) 5.Greater College Ministry (2 elements)

8  Part II – Job Performance Specifics ◦ Form would relates to Job description duties ◦ Example of duty:  Provides the necessary assistance to the Young Adult Council in planning, implementing and evaluating its overall programs of worship, study, fellowship, service, and leadership development ◦ Proposed Rating: 1=Does Not Meet Expectations 2= Meets Expectations 3=Exceeds Expectations Specific comments required for a 1 or 3 rating

9 123 1 Appropriate assistance was provided to the Young Adult Council in planning, implementing and evaluating its overall programs of worship, study, fellowship, service, and leadership development (Y) x 2 Appropriate pastoral care, counseling, and spiritual direction was provided to individuals, providing comfort to the afflicted and afflicting the comfortable (Student Survey) x 3Sufficient opportunities for discipleship formation and growth such as small groups, one-time events, and retreats addressing aspects of discipleship, the Bible, ethics, and spiritual faith issues were provided.(B & Student Survey) x

10  Part II – Job Performance Specifics  Personnel Committee assigns the rating based on: Constituency input relating to their areas of concern  Example – Board input for “Working with Board” responsibilities Campus Ministry Reporting System Campus Ministry Effectiveness Survey (if used) ◦ Campus Minister participation includes:  Self-evaluation for some areas  Responds to Committee ratings

11  Part III – Professional Development Plan ◦ Relate to BHECM Guidance (Growth) ◦ Address job performance areas rated as not meeting expectations (Part II results) ◦ Also Addresses the Professional Development part of the Job Description  Includes conferences, seminars, training and other development activities that may require funding ◦ Written by the Campus Minister each August  Reviewed by the Personnel Committee/Board

15  Each year the evaluation process shall solicit input from the following constituencies of the ministry: ◦ student leaders, ◦ faculty and staff, ◦ colleagues, ◦ board members, ◦ local church leaders, etc. Alignment with Appropriate Ministry Areas
