PROPERTY CRIME – THEFT OR DAMAGING PROPERTY  INCLUDES BURGLARY, LARCENY, MOTOR VEHICLE THEFT, ARSON  SOME SORT COMMITTED EVERY 3 SECONDS  STILL DOWN SIGNIFICANTLY, FROM THE EARLY 1990’s  CAN BE RELATED TO RELATIVE AGE OF CRIMINALS  CAN BE RELATED TO DRUG TRENDS – USERS NEED TO FEED THEIR ADDICTION

7 3.) VICTIMLESS CRIME – ONLY HARM THOSE COMMITTING THE ACT  INCLUDE PROSTITUTION, ILLEGAL GAMBLING, ILLEGAL DRUG USE, VAGRANCY  CAN HAVE SIGNIFICANT CONSEQUENCES FOR SOCIETY  WHAT DOES A HOMELESS PERSON COST?

WHITE COLLAR CRIME - OFFENSES COMMITTED BY PEOPLE OF HIGH SOCIAL STATUS IN THEIR PROFESSIONAL LIVES  COMMITTED BY POLITICIANS, EMPLOYEES, AND CORPORATIONS.  INCLUDE FRAUD, TAX EVASION, MISREPRESENTATION, INSIDER TRADING, CORRUPTION.  WITH NEW “CORPORATE PERSONHOOD” LAWS, THESE BUSINESSES CAN BE CHARGED LIKE INDIVIDUALS.  ESTIMATES ARE FROM $300 - $650… BILLION PER YEAR.  ABUSING POLITICAL POWER CAN HAVE GREATER HARMS FOR SOCIETY.

ORGANIZED CRIME  CRIME SYNDICATE – LARGE SCALE ORGANIZATION OF PROFESSIONAL CRIMINALS THAT CONTROL VICE THROUGH VIOLENCE OR THREATS  CAN USE LEGAL “FRONTS” OF BUSINESS  INCLUDES DRUG TRAFFICKING, ILLEGAL GAMBLING, UNFAIR LABOR PRACTICES, LOAN SHARKING, COUNTERFEITING.  EXTREMELY HARD TO ESTIMATE, AND HARD TO DEAL WITH  AKIN TO PARASITES ON SOCIETY. HAVE NO INTEREST IN CREATING OR HOLDING POLITICAL POWER, JUST ECONOMIC.

DETERRENCE – DISCOURAGE FUTURE OFFENDERS  3.) REHABILITATION – REFORM CRIMINALS BACK INTO SOCIETY  4.) SOCIAL PROTECTION – LIMITING FREEDOM REMOVES ADDITIONAL CRIME FROM SOCIETY
