1. News2 13 major WTO members discussed how to break the impasse on six key issues in the WTO talks. 6 issues: agriculture, nonagriculture products, services, special treatment for developing countries, reviews of antidumping measures and other trade rules, and new themes like investment rules. 「 interim accord 」

5. News 3 Supachia urged ministers of the 30 members of the OECD meeting to act swiftly to ensure that negotiations were successful. 「 Finishing the Round successfully and on time would be not only an economic stimulus but also be a powerful signal of int’l cooperation. 」

7. News 4 EU Trade Commissioner Pascal Lamy and U.S. Trade Representative Robert Zoellick used the annual meetings of the OECD to ease trade tensions and provide an impetus to stalled global discussions.

10. New 5 OECD ministerial meeting chairwoman Helen Clark, who is also the PM of New Zealand, said momentum is building toward the conclusion of the WTO round of trade liberalization talks on schedule by the end of 2004.

11. News 5(continued) 「 The WTO Doha round is a once in a generation opportunity which we cannot afford to miss. 」 「 There was a sense of needing to shift gears to get from Cancun to the end of the negotiations by the end of 2004. 」

13. News7 France Trade Minister Francois Loos complained that many gov’t use regulations, particularly health and phytosanitary regulations, as a way of hindering int’l trade. But he also added that when a new disease erupts in a part of the world, int’l scientific regulations are needed.

Many of these countries have been sidelined from global growth despite the trade liberalization archived during the Uruguay Round. 」 「 It is essential to set on the road to growth countries whose share in world trade has declined, since many poor countries way ask themselves whether membership of the WTO will bring them more than just constraints. 」
