Environmental Factors
Aluminium is obtained from an ore called BAUXITE which is extracted from the ground using very large excavating machines. Bauxite is a non-renewable resource. This means that when it runs out it cannot be replaced.
To ease this problem we have been RECYCLING aluminium for many years. It is obtained from old cars, drinks cans, pots and pans and other household items such as refrigerators.
At present the cost of processing recycled aluminium is only 5% of the cost of processing bauxite ore. As the technology improves, the cost of recycling aluminium should continue to fall.
