3 National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education NCATE is an alliance of 33 national professional education and public organizations. It is non-profit and non-government. NCATE support quality teaching. NCATE currently accredits 623 colleges of education. NCATE accreditation is a mark of distinction, and provides recognition that the college of education has met national professional standards for the preparation of teachers and other educators. NCATE’s performance-based accreditation system, requires institutions to provide evidence of competent teacher candidate performance.
