8 JOAN OF ARC  Maid of Orleans  Folk heroine of France And a Roman Catholic Saint  Born a peasant in North-east France in 1412  Claimed to hear God’s voice and be guided by God’s will  Lead the French army to many victories  Captured by the Burgundians and sent to the English, Put on Trial by Pro- English Bishop Beauvais  Burned at the stake when she was 19 years old.  25 years later the inquisitorial court examined the trial and found her innocent.  She was declared a martyr.
